Just bought a manifold of a jaguar xf non swirl.. I'll get some ngk glow plugs once it arrives. Is carb cleaner and gunk safe to clean the plastic manifold?? |

I started with Gunk but soon decided that I need far more than I had so switched to white spirit.

Yes, I think I'll be leaving it submerged for at least a day or two in something suitable! I hope this will be worth the effort.. i'd like to see a little more mpg too! Haha! Fingers crossed! |

My jaguar xf non swirl manifold has just arrived.. very happy! Looks like it's come off a very low mileage engine with only a very light coating of oil mist inside. No build up whatsoever! Bargain at only £40 delivered! |

There's a good guide here - http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic11567.htm...6e3bcd0405 TBH I found it a bit of a PITA job, mostly because of all the other stuff you need to remove to get at it and the inaccessibility of a lot of the fixings. I needed to remove mine to replace the glow plugs. While it was off I left it soaking in paraffin overnight to loosen all the soot, I also took the opportunity to remove the swirl flaps while it was off. I took the actuator and lever off from the end and managed to grip the end of the square brass rod with mole grips and pull it right out, then break out the four plastic flaps and gave it another wash out to make sure there were no bits left inside, to seal off the hole in the end, I simply refitted the actuator and lever. Having the flaps removed doesn't seem to make any difference to the way the engine runs but hopefully, the long-term reliability should be improved. |
