Td4 dpf / swirl flaps present or not??

Freelander 2 2.2 td4 automatic 160bhp.
2008 model.

Can someone please confirm if my vehicle has a dpf or swirl flaps fitted?
(Tax is £315 per year)

I've read that some td4 had swirl flaps and some didn't? I can't seem to find a definitive answer! Can they be removed if they are present?

2008 I believe does not have DPF - mine certainly didn't.

Not 100% sure about the swirl flaps, but I think that they are present.
Happy to be corrected but I think if you have the organ pipes on the inlet manifold then you have swirl flaps. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Ahhhh yes, my engine does have those organ pipes in the induction pipe.
Does that confirm that some td4 do not have these swirl flaps? And can the manifolds be swapped to effectively delete them?

if you have organ pipes you don't have a DPF, that came with 2011 facelift. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Ok. Can the inlet manifold of a none swirl flap [sd4] engine be swapped onto my td4 engine to effectively delete the swirl flaps?

I'm planning on removing and cleaning said manifold anyway so would be a good opportunity to do the swap...

I believe that the change to the post 2011 DPF engine involved a few other changes (ECU, injectors, turbo etc) which affected the emissions. It's not as simple as you suggest. Perhaps someone knows the details? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I'd be very surprised if no one has already looked into this and also swapped the manifolds? The swirl flaps should easily be able to be deactivated by a reputable ecu remapper, the same as an egr is digitally disabled for example..

@DigDil

Can the manifolds simply be swapped over then without any engine fault codes appearing?? Perfect opportunity to buy and fit a lovely clean manifold to match my blanked egr!

Vitally first, buying a manifold that is clearly marked as "without swirl"... 👍

Yes, other than blanking the vacuum pipe I didn't do anything. I've not noticed any difference in the way it runs and its been like that for over a year.

I picked up a used one and give it a good clean before fitting it. I think others have just removed the bar and plugged the manifold but I didn't fancy doing that.

That's excellent news!!! Thank you so much for your help! I'll get searching for a suitable manifold. Am i correct in thinking all sd4 fl2 / evoque (2.2's) are non swirl?

Are all ford 2.2 tdci non swirl?

I'm not an expert but I think the Evoque 2.2 are non swirl and Ford. I know the one I picked up came from a Mondeo. Best to search for the part number 9659449480 and make sure its the non swirl version as they have both part numbers stamped on them.
