We cheat because we can't be doing will all that faff. Big Cry

We buy turkey breast with stuffing from the Waitrose deli when it is reduced then freeze it, whenever it's bought - September this year.

Defrost it in time for Christmas, and it's all perfectly sliced, ready to go, with the roasties that we parboiled then froze and the veg.

The relatives have never found this out and think that we have spent ages/£££ to produce the perfect Christmas dinner.

Costs next to nothing for the full works too but we haven't burdened them with that information. Mr. Green

Don't know, for the fourth year we are having Xmas dinner at the Red Lion in Burnsall, it actually saves us money after years of providing for all, I just have to chip in £120 plus our share of the drinks bill. I'm not a big drinker either so I don't mind it being my turn to drive home this year. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

On cold Xmas day a few years ago I was at work and the wife rang to say the central heating and cooker had stopped. After inspecting the oil tank she reported it to be empty. Gosh I thought there must be a leak cos I thought we had plenty of oil. She proceeded to chop up logs all day and carry them into the house and attempt heat the living room with our wood burner and cook on the small electric hob. When I got home in the evening I discovered that the valve linking the 2 oil tanks (I have 2 in parallel) was turned off and the 2nd tank was still full (it doesnt have a gauge).
Needless to say the "gift" from the wife was not what I had been hoping for and the swelling took several days to subside. Jules

Bit of an experiment this year, ordered from the local butcher who has his own farm, very good meat, much denser than UK meat and less fat but very tasty and tender, the rumour is that Cyprus turkeys (the only reference to turkey accepted in the south Laughing ) have less breast and heavier thighs than a UK bird, though the women are opposite until a certain age Very Happy my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I bought my turkey breast the other day, used to buy a crown but always had half left so thought what's the point

1kg of prawns, a side of Hot Smoked Salmon and that raw smoked salmon and some roll mops should keep the hunger pains at bay

As for bonuss, I've taken them out for a meal, a bottle of bubbly and will give her some extra in the pay packet

The Tesco delivery driver got a few quid, just like the milk man and apparently when the Amazon Prime Now driver delivers the item he is paid to deliver they have automatically added a £2 tip on to the order the cheeky feckers Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Re: Christmas turkey. When do you buy yours.

Mrs D always likes to pre-order our turkey for collection at Marks's. I get the job of going up at ze allotted time, joining ze queue of bored husbands and shuffling along until our chosen bird is produced. No more! This year she has missed the cut-off date for ordering and we are currently at loggerheads on when to buy. I want to hold my nerve and get one on Christmas Eve for half price but panicky Anniky is saying ”Buy it now, buy it now, there'll be none left soon". She doesn't care if it's frozen either. Just get anything she says!

Well, what's your position on this, men?

Didn't get a bloody say on it! She went out today to 'get a few bits' and came back with a fresh turkey. It's roosting in the lower half of the fridge at present but now she's worrying whether it will keep fresh until Christmas Day! According to the sticker, It's good until the 28th but that's not enough leeway for her - she's thinking of freezing it! Over my dead body. If it goes off, it's all down to her. She's worried!
