Cheers, I also looked at the Tiguan and the XC60 (looked at the Toureg and XC90 to but a little thirsty) , both very nice cars.

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Indus Silver

I've made the same switch, love the X3 and it is true it isn't brilliant off road but good Continental M&S tyres do help, but where it does excel is its drive ability and handling. I've returned an average of 45mpg over 10k miles without trying and on a long run can achieve 59mpg. Servicing is a heck of a lot cheaper as well but the one thing that BMW owners don't have is a forum like this!! Freel2 and disco3 forums are a greater addiction than the freelancer or disco themselves 😄 Current 2008 Freel2 HSE

Have you done much off roading in the X3 then?

There are quite a few videos on You Tube of the X3 off road and it does not do that badly, both in snow and mud. As you say, I am assuming they have the M+S tyres on.

Hiya nope not really and a lot of that is down to confidence, I did 2 of the Landrover experience days in both the Freelander and the Disco3 and you really gain a sense of what the Landies can do safely, but have done a few muddy tracks in the x3 but mine is a manual and the clutch doesn't seem to like negotiating ruts or driving over any type of obstacle.

But most of my driving is on the Tarmac and has been fine driving on snowy roads here which realistically is want I want a 4x4 for. Current 2008 Freel2 HSE
