If I understand you.

Earth wire is connected to roof bar mount
Live 12v runs in roof gully towards windscreen
Then runs under the rubber seal round windscreen to the engine.

I lubricated the live wire with washing up liquid so it slid under the windscreen rubber edge easily.

That's what I did, there was quite a lot of dirt behind the rubber but once that was removed the wire slid own easily
