I think we are all entitled to our opinion, whether it is popular or not. That's what free speech is! Punching people is against the law, whether at work, on the pitch or wherever. There was no way he could have stayed in post after that.

The sacking of Clarkson is hardly a disaster; I can't understand why people get so worked up about it.

What is a disaster is the A320 that came down in the French Alps. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Did seem to be an odd way to odd way to state you don't want to carry on with the programme and endeavour to put the blame else where so save a bit of hate mail and tweets. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I'm amazed that the BBC continues to call Top Gear a "factual programme". All those staged races, comedy caravan crashes, joke news about cars with foreign names ..... is that what passes for "factual" these days? The programme is a disgrace and Clarkson the chief reason for it.

It's not factual, it's entertainment focused around cars. It does/did make a nice change from an endless diet of PC diluted drivel! 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I generally try not to use forum these days to make serious or potentially controversial points, being a mod suggests I should take a 'modest' approach and I have had recourse to tidy up this thread and pull what was regarded as unsavoury comments, this has been done and I hope the debate can continue in a more reverent way.

However I have to say I was disappointed to hear that the BBC have sacked Jeremy Clarkson, they did have good reason and this is the only action they could take, he was well aware of this and most likely expected it.

The BBC is an organisation that is bitterly opposed to freedom of expression and totally driven by political correctness...however this same organisation saw fit to suppress and cover up Jimmy Saville's wicked, evil and premeditated activities for decades and even attempted to suppress its own Panorama program on these sordid events just last year...
The fact that an unnamed executive tried to draw comparisons of the Clarkson episode to the Saville affair in the press last week is unforgivable and I really hope he takes this outdated and tired organisation for tens of millions...I for one shall miss Clarkson's banter and his totally irreverent style...at least on the BBC....

From today's financial press.
Top Gear’s Clarkson to go to ITV?

Rumours that Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson could join ITV (ITV) after his sacking by the BBC could bring ‘several benefits’ to the station.

Liberum analyst Ian Whittaker reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation for ITV, which is Liberum’s top pick in the sector, and target price of 310p on the shares, which inched 0.9% lower to 256.9p yesterday.

He said that while it was uncertain whether Clarkson could use the Top Gear brand at ITV as the BBC has bought out Clarkson’s stake in his production company, a Top Gear-style show could have three main benefits.

‘Audience share with such a popular programme; advertising – given the Top Gear demographic, it is likely to be relatively attractive to advertisers; and worldwide sales – press reports suggested Top Gear earns £50 million per annum for the BBC globally; while it is unclear what would happen with the Top Gear brand, a Clarkson-fronted motor show is likely to replicate this success,’ said Whittaker.

I agree with a fair chunk of what you say (apart from liking Clarkson!) but surely two/three wrongs dont make a right. In any organisation in this country, a verbal and physical assault on a work colleague is instant dismissal. Just because others in the same organisation have got away with far worse in the past proves that they are tightening up their act.
