Finally got around to mounting my CREE LED Light bar to a spare roofbar
Pictures below.

all told, took a few hours - mainly due to lack of a bench drill which would have been very
useful and saved loads off time and allowed me to drill perfectly vertical holes through the roof bars.

using an old roof bar which I purchased specifically for this mini project

1. remove the top rubber strip - it just pulls off
2. checked how much travel there is on each mounting foot - dont want to drill through the bar and
impede its operation. around 4.5", so no drilling through the bar closer than 5" from the end.
3 using the gully where the rubber strip sits, offer up the light bar and mark where to drill.
4. Drill through the bar. hole size for a M6 bolt
5. Obviously due to shape of the bar this wont be perfectly square. So also drill through the underside of the bar only
using a 8mm bit - to allow a bit of wiggle room for the mounting bolts
6. clear of any burrs
7. swear loudly as you have scratched the roof bar
8. Offer up the light bar to the cross bar complete with mounting feet and M6 bolts
9. As the bar is curved, and the light bar is straight, the mounting feet wont sit correctly
There will be a gap on the middle mounts. measure this gap approximately.
10 source sufficiently large black rubber washers to pad this gap -
11. On top of the cross bar in the gully for the rubber strip, there is plenty of room for
the nuts to connect to the mounting bolts, but there is no room for the socket to tighten them up.
12. Swear some more, use whatever tools are to hand and remove the lip on the gully to allow
sufficient room for the socket, yet not too much so that the rubber strip will cover everything when refitted.
13. Fit the light bar fully, adjusting the angle of the beam as a best guess whilst on the bench
( tip, aim it much lower than you would think, the FL2 roof aint flat)
14. Obviously, the bolts will protrude through the roofbar by way too much
15. grind of the top of the bolts flush with the nuts
16. refit rubber strip, cutting notches from the underside where it meets the 4 mounting bolt
17. Have a well deserved beer
18 fit to LED Light bar and stand back

I will do the electrics later in the week, most likely will remove the roof rails and hide the power cables in the gully under the trim.

took it for a spin, there is a little more wind noise, but not too much considering I have 3 roof bars and a LED Light bar on top. Easy to live with.

humm, did i miss anything, its late, and have been up since 5....

I guess the F150 on Top Gear spurred you on to fitting it

technically, I had the idea, and the light before I saw the F150.

Still, that looks likes loads of fun. their snow chains were mental.

didnt check for room for the sunroof, I never use it.
Out of choice I would have a car without one.

Yes it is close to the sunroof, but then I don't want, nor do I use my sunroof.
When I have wired the light up and finalized its position on the roof rails.
If it does impede the sunroof, I will pull the sunroof fuse.....

This a short video I made to show how much light is given off by my light bar.
My standard Lights are Xenon, this clip shows Xenons on dip beam, main beam then
the light bar. It was made using my phone so even the xenons dont look that bright.
The light bar is absolutely stunning, though is pointed a little too low and needs adjustment

 

Not sure about your main beam there, mine would be close to your lighting bar?

limitation of the phone camera, in actual fact the xenons are very bright, the phone does not seem to
be capturing that - especially on main beam, and in real life the light bar is far brighter than the video depicts

Not for me but that's impressive illumination from the light bar

Not to self, when in Kent always dip Headlights as soon as I see other Headlights in the distance.
