My main commute vehicle is my motorbike, which I use all year round unless its too windy, snowing or icy, then I switch to 4 wheels, which prior to FL2 was a BMW 8 Series, 5.6 litre V12 with big wide tyres, not the most practical vehicle for driving in snow but a heck of a lot safer than the motorbike. In the end I decided it would be wise to buy winter tyres for it, Vredstein Wintracs.

My very first test on them was having to pull up at the next village at the base of a small incline because a Porsche Cayenne was currently 4 wheel spinning its way up, from one side of the road to the other, progressing about a foot every second. When he finally cleared it I thought now we will see if these tyres are any good, put it in first gear, pulled away and drove straight up with no dramas whatsoever. Anyone who saw me driving that around in the snow must have thought I was a right nut, but I had no problems at all, the winter tyres made a tremendous difference. That sold me on them.

From reading some forecasts today and with the USA experiencing epic cold weather again, I am confident you can write off winter right now. I guarantee relentless mild, wind and rain with hardly any frost let alone snow. It will be like last winter but perhaps not as bad.

Its going to be mild and wet for a while but I'm still seeing predictions of a colder than average winter:

"Confidence in an average negative AO state for the upcoming winter remains high given the rapid advance of Eurasian snow cover in October. This would favour a colder than average winter for much of the Central and Eastern US as well as Europe and East Asia."

A lot of weather people are getting excited for the end of November. The present weather models are predicting cold Siberian air to start flowing into the Uk around the 25th. It seems the met office are favouring a ridiculously mild spell coming up (for the time of year). Southerly winds and very mild air with potentially t-shirt weather down south.

Latest long range forecast I have seen says a mainly wet and blustery December until the end of the month when the jet stream is then predicted to move south of us and pulling in the cold air. Subject to the right conditions occurring to break up the stratospheric vortex, January could well have some snow events.

I think the Doc gets to hang on to his £20 for just over a month more.

Will probably put mine on at the weekend, ironically just because the weathers supposed to be so nice this weekend, and because I probably won't use it much until the end of the December anyway.

Twitter weather people are saying its going to get cold after the weekend with possible snow around the second week of December. What's interesting on twitter is that there are quite a few weather experts bickering amongst themselves regarding weather but they seem to agree never to belive a work the Daily Express prints about snow!!.
