Just checked mine and they do have an asymmetrical beam. I reckon Alex has got it right. No time to take the lights off to check though. Luckily I'm not going via France tomorrow!
In fact with an unloaded car winding the beams down should be enough I think.

Xenon lights have auto-leveling. There shouldn't be a winding button...

As 'attrs' said, the Xenon lights are auto-levelling, so should not require adjustment up or down. I had a BMW 320 briefly, which had Xenon headlights, and it stated in the handbook that you do not have to alter the beam if taking the motor abroad.

Now does that apply to all Xenons fitted to all Freelanders? I don't know.

Doug.

OK, so mine can't be Xenon, as they can be (and were) wound down. There seems to be a lot of confusion here. I must get round to reading the handbook. When LR get round to sending me one.

You can always read the owners manual on line through Topix.

Contrary to what was in another recent post, it seems that the later style Xenon Headlights do have the Tourist Lever as per older type Xenons. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Easier than that - there's a copy on this site, courtesy of Alex. I just find paper easier to read.

I am confused. Can someone show me where this tourist lever is in a 2013MY headlamp?

The 2013 handbook isn't correct and refers to a separate main/dip bulb but the DRL has replaced the main bulb in the headlamp and the one halogen/xenon bulb acts as both main beam and dip with a shutter that flips up and down to do so. Apart from its vertical/horizontal positions to switch between the two the shutter which has a LHD or RHD profile depending on the market, it is fixed. I have seen inside both halogen and xenon headlamps and their basic design is the same, the only difference is the bulb and its holder, the addition of a ballast in the xenon version and a different internal loom for the wiring.

Courtesy of Alex I looked at the 2014 handbook online and it is the same. Is there still a market that has a separate main and dip headlamp as in the handbook? 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

This is where I believe the book is also wrong, this bit is the same in pre 2013 models. The picture of the back/inside doesn't resemble a 2013 headlamp.

This is a NS halogen headlamp, but the xenon is the same except for the bulb at rear. On the right there is the rear of the DRL circuit board and on the left is the bulb and two white parts. The outer is the bracket and the inner is shutter for dip/main. I can't see a lever. Confused 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

There isn't one, as my photo in the post above shows. The book is incorrect in suggesting that there is. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

So what do you do if you don't have tourist level?
My manual refers to a level but i can't see one. There is a plastic stick which allows you to pull up and it moves down by a spring, I assume by removing it you can open the back cover of the light and see the tourist level inside.
At the moment I don't know what type is my headlight: halogen or xenons? Can someone give me advice thanks! My fl2 is MY2013 and was registered in April 2013.

Easy! Open your bonnet and stamped on each headlight assembly will be headlight type, in my case HID
(Xenon style globe).

This style of headlight assembly MY15 and earlier equivalents don't require any modification for driving in any part of the world as stated in the Owners Manual.
The lever behind is for facilitating the removal of the entire headlight unit, which is quite easy!
There has been many configurations of headlight setups over the production life of the Freelander 2. Some midlife models had tourists levers to facilitate a multiuse system. I recommend you refer to your Model Year Owners Manual and if there is not lever present then you have a unit designed for multinational use, especially if you have later production model. MY15

Thank Stuart! I take a look and only has one label on the left hand side lamp stated LH HAL UK. Does it mean my headlight is halogen and I will need to get to the tourist lever inside the back cover?
My manual also refer to tourist lever
