HTC One

Thinking of changing my phone this week, at the moment I'm useing the iPhone 4s but fancy a change, the 2 I'm looking at are the HTC One or the Samsung 4s but more towards the HTC. Anyone useing this phone and what's your view's on it and looking at going to the 3 network from o2. So would like to know if this network any good, I've always been with o2 you see.

I use the HTC One on EE and find it to be an excellent phone, best I've used so far!
Great screen, Blinkfeed is really useful if like me you like to keep up with the news 'you' want to see while on the go "you can turn it off if you don't like it". Build quality is top notch "solid block of aluminium" and it feels like a quality item to the touch. I find the screen size to be just about right for my needs while I'm away, not too big to get in the way and not too small that you end up hitting the wrong keys all the time.
I don't store or play music on the phone, but the 'Beats Audio' speakers on the HTC One have to be heard to be believed, the sound from them is incredible compared to any other mobile's speakers I've heard.
Battery life is excellent! I use it heavily when I'm working away and it's always got me through the day with ease. Over a weekend I can get three days between charges, but it's mostly lying around with nothing but an occasional call.
Lots of handy features available for free through Android and it's always paired and shared data easily with both my previous 2010 Freelander and my current model. Thumbs Up

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, it's a brilliant phone! It's so easy to use, it's light and I love the bigger screen. SWMBO has an iPhone 5 and we both agree that the Samsung is the better phone. I like my S3 so much I will soon be upgrading my iPad 3 to a Samsung tablet.

Haven't experienced the HTC myself, but I have heard it is very good. Thumbs Up

On that basis I'd go for the Samsung.

We have an htc one, Samsung s3 and iPhone 5 in the house. Until recently we also had a Nokia Lumia.
Hands down the htc one is the best phone. Also has won a number of group tests against the iPhone and s4 so not just my opinion. And in case you are thinking I am biased because I own one.... Not me! I own the iphone (sadly). (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
60 000 miles averaging 35mpg

(Gone) 2010 TD4 Manual GS - Stornoway Grey. Sold at 3yrs old & 64k miles. Final average consumption 39.2mpg.

HTC One is the best phone out there right now, a lovely bit of kit, trying to find ways to part my daughter from hers but she rates it too highly to even think about passing it on to me yet!!

Have had HTC One for 3 months now. Completely bulletproof. Would recommend it to anyone. HTC make a nice cheap car kit for it too, which fits beautifully in the FL2.

Girlfriend and I both have Blackberries too and she recently had her work phone swapped to an iPhone 4S. She can barely make a call with it but is a demon on the BB. Would not recommend iPhone on this basis.

Can't help on the H3G network feedback sadly, other than to say that a learned colleague told me EE now has the best network coverage of any of those available in the UK, with O2 a close second. We are in the mobile comms business and are heavily involved in the technology for the cell sites / antennae so I take his recommendation seriously.

I have the HTC One Mini

I use an iPhone but have just received a HTC One Mini from work on EE.
I know friends who have gone from iPhone to HTC and love it but I just can't get into it.
I find the iPhone better built and a much better interface experience. The HTC is driving me a little nuts.
I reckon a lot of that is my unfamiliarity with it. Howeever, for my personal phone I will be sticking to Apple.

As for network. I've been on O2 for years and I am ready to move away from them. I've done a lot of travelling throughout the UK during 2013 and I have been amazed at the lack of coverage by O2. Not just missing 3G but missing signal completely in places you'd expect super coverage. The work HTC is on EE and so far the coverage has been loads better.

New HTC One about to be announced at CES ( http://phandroid.com/2014/01/02/htc-m8-specs-leak/ ).

The UP camera gets good AND bad reviews how ever I am of the opinion if you want photos of high standard - use a camera. I dont like the fixablity of the unit ( see ifixit ) but as a design its very good. Worryingly as a major Android user and HTC supporter I would lean to the iPhone as a comparison....

I have the Note 3 and love it - it can be a bit big at times but for bed surfing etc its an ideal size. The main reason I went for it was the note pad / pen features which I find very useful.

HTC provide a similar app on the one but no pen....

Well I've ended up getting the HTC One. Wasn't sure at first with having an iPhone for so long but once I got use to it I've got to say it beats the iPhone hands down. Apple need to do something big to get to the top of the smartphone tree again.

Out of interest.....

Hi Hinchy,

Out of interest, what is it that makes you say that the iphone is so far behind?

This is an interesting turn up for the books! I've used 4 generations of HTC phone at work (three of them used until the were completely worn out!), the latest being the HTC One.

The previous three generations of HTC were completely dreadful. They all had a very heavy workload and were terrible on so many levels - difficult to use, slow and desperately unreliable.

Towards the end of the third HTC, I bought myself a new iPhone 4 for private use and it was a revelation - the first mobile phone I've actually liked (and I've used them consistently since my first one in 1987!) It was reliable, excellent sound quality, great as a phone and intuitive to use for all of the other functions.

Then I was given an HTC One for work. Much bigger, flasher, really looks the part (great "phone jewelery") and a huge step forward BUT not popular amongst work users - particularly the very poor call quality; often unusable for important calls and not worth risking a sale over. I eventually all but gave up using mine and simply used my private (unlimited contract) iPhone 4 for work as well as private use. I wasn't the only one who "parked" their HTC and simply reused their work SIM card in something better.

My new job comes with an iPhone at my request. I don't care if it's a 4, a 4S, or any flavour of iPhone 5. Even the pink one! As long as it's not another Censored HTC! Laughing
