Jacks and axle stand ratings

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help me? I'm thinking of buying a jack and axle stand for doing little things at first like changing brake pads etc. As the FL2 is 2.5 tonnes, do I need to get a jack and axle stand that is rated above that figure? I know some people might think this daft but I dont fancy going under a car if the axle stands are too weak!!

You wont be lifting the whole car up at once with one jack, Id have thought a 2t jack and stand/s would be more that enough.
Ive got 2x 2t axle stands, 2x 1t axle stands and a 2t trolley jack, hi lifter.

That was my thinking that if it was one wheel at a time the it wouldnt be all the weight bearing down on the jack/stand.

I seem to recall LR specify minimum 1.5 tonne for a trolley jack for the FL2, so 2 tonne should be sufficient. One hears stories about the quality of some jacks, though, particularly the quick-lift type, so I went for a 3 tonne non-quick-lift from Machine Mart. It's heavy, but lifts the FL2 with ease.

2T should be ample, but be careful the FL2 is quite high off the floor, lots of jacks don't lift high enough.
Also axle stands can be at their full reach so get ones with as wide a base as possible, to aid stability. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

D3 owners mostly use the Machine Mart 3000G, probably bigger than you need but better safe than sorry, they also do some good stands too. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.
