I want to buy a Freelander 2 HSC

I am looking at a 2008

What are peoples thoughts and buying advice / tips and what to look for please?

I think only you can answer that question.
For advice you will need to advise a little more on what your use will be.

 Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

FL2

If you buy a RRS, where you gonna park it You'll have to leave it outside of town and catch the bus in, no parking bays are wide enough to stop it getting 'banged'.

Its bad enough with a FL2 thats why Im getting rid of it and getting a MINI

If it's a diesel - make sure the glow plugs are changed. Also it could be a good idea to ask for a new battery.
Check the servicebook, that it has a full service - also, make sure all upgrades are made on the software. Should be in the servicebook. It's never too late to learn something new...

check everything, yes everything works. no slip in clutch, no strange noises when driving coming from rear. steering not stiff or clunky.

look underneath for signs of off road use and that nothing is damaged

usual other things you would look for on a car, suspension, 'cream' in the oil etc etc

im sure there may be more to look for too  freelander 2 SE black and beige - now sold

I think you should buy a 2008 FL2 HSC, it will be exactly what you want

you just look silly because you own an fl2 not a RRS


HSC? you mean HSE?

check clutch as mentioned side sides can split (they are pleather vinyl not leather)
whiney noise steering means new steering rack needed

And I will get shot down for this (again ) avoid cars with towbars, you wont know what kind of driver has been flogging the life out of it towing/attempting to reverse a huge plastic 'holiday' shed At work

Whatever you buy just make sure it has a long warranty that includes the clutch.

The man's just GOT to be from Yorkshire! Look on any caravan site (and particularly Caravan Club sites) and you'll see immaculately maintained 4*4s or big estates being driven by folk who are very experienced in towing, including all manoeuvring. One commercial site we used to use every year (Trevornick) before emigrating to God's own county outside Lancashire, regularly has several Pajeros and Patrols going strong after many years and thousands of miles.

I'd rather buy a big, heavy automatic diesel from a caravanner than any size petrol driven vehicle with three pedals that probably has been thrashed by a gear-crashing novice

Pajeros and Patrols can probably hack a hard life towing, don't think the FL2 can without popping a few clutches.
