So, how much did your replacement clutch & DMF cost then

My beloved 56 plate se, has 52k on the clock, and judging from the numerous posts it must be due for a clutch in the next year or so......

So, if you have had to replace your clutch.

How much did it cost ?
Where did you get it done?
Would you use them again ?
How many miles had your covered at time of replacement ?

It might be interesting to compare prices etc across the country.

In fact, I live in Kent, if it is much cheaper up north - Scotland etc, then maybe a weekend break would be in order.
A log canbin by the lochs, and a bit of shooting.........

Mine needed replacing at 22,000 miles when it started to slip, car was only 2 years old and thankfully still in warranty.
To strip down and replace clutch plate only would of cost around the £1000 mark. If you needed pressure plate, thrust bearing and duel mass flywheel expect to pay another £500 - £600 on top

not necessarily, the fact that you have done 52K would suggest that your clutch is fine and could last for another 52K !!

the faulty ones seem to go at a lower mileage.

Mines just coming up for 51000 miles and is a 2010 stop start version, it is just showing signs of slip now and then when cold, ok when warmed up, so far! Its not driven hard and never towed or heavily loaded, But as its a company car, it wont cost me so it doesnt matter what happens as far as Im concerned.

Ive not stripped down a freelander 2 box yet to see for myself but I have purchased a new pressure plate and clutch plate. The clutch linning does not look very meaty.
The preasure plate is a self adjusting type which is preset when new and will adjust the first time you press the clutch pedal which means as the clutch linning wears down, the pressure plate adjusts to take up the slack. As with all things that wear theres always dust left over and I suspect its getting in to the self adjuster of the pressure plate and clogging it. This can then cause rapid premature wear of the clutch plate.
Its also possible that excess heat is generated causing over heating of the duel mass flywheel which then in turn can fail.
I have found in the past the problems for clutch slip "appart from contamination wear etc" that one or more of the pressure plate fingers have broken or bent, but again a strip down is needed to visualy see.
