I don't know if it still applies but it use to be that engines were manufactured not knowing the country they were going to before being fitted in the car, so all were tuned to accept all grades of fuel from poor to good quality. It is this that re-mapping can take advantage of because of our quality of fuel in the UK.

Last time I asked Viezu said they hadn't got the protocols for the SD4 so couldn't offer a remap/tuning product. Has this changed yet? Freelander 2 SD4 HSE - Ipanema Sand - MD co-pilot - Springer Spaniel in boot - Swift Challenger on the back!

So if you go to like say France your car blows up then?

You also have to take in a account that there are people outthere that dare to add stuff to the fuel they sell, just to make a buck. Though rare, it happens.

What if you happen to have fuel that is downgraded that way or indeed have less quality fuel when on vacation somewhere, how will the car react to it.

I'm thinking mostly former east european countries one can reach by car from the mainland. I don't think fuels over there are of the same quality, and there rules are a lot less strickly enforced or monitorable.

The one advantage of tuning boxes - if you are going to a country with suspect fuel (not France) then you can remove the box and return the car to manufacturers original state.

We had a PowerBox fitted to our FL1 for 2 years, no grief, noticable increase in power, no noticable increase in MPG, made towing a pleasure. When we took it to Morrocco, I turned it off after the first fill up because the smoke was blinding the following vehicle! Refitted when back in Spain no further issues.

Bit of a bind to fit as you had to pull all the plugs from the ECU and fit interface cables every time I took the car to the dealers Embarassed

Currently happy with the power output as standard - but you never know Very Happy Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
