United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Our car is finally back to its responsive self. As per previous update, the throttle body was replaced. Due to the amount of oil in the unit I ordered a new MAP sensor which I swopped over today and thankfully the car is back to it's responsive self! Phew! Was making a list of what to look at next which could of been rather expensive.

Reduced Engine Performance

Well. We've had our freelander 2 less than a week and it's back at the garage already.

My wife was driving and she said the car shuddered at speed and was losing power. I drove it today and I noticed it say reduced engine performance and the car was in limp mode.

Took it back to the Toyota dealer we bought it from and they said a glow plug has gone and the EGR valve is sticking or unserviceable.

Hopefully that resolves. I've read a number of people having issues with exhaust sensors and fuel filters.
You
Cheers.

Stefan.

Don't forget that the glow plug issue will only affect the starting. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Agreed. It did stall after I started it this morning, so I assumed it was because of the cold. I'll let you all know how I get on once the garage fixes it.

I love the car so I really hope they resolve it first time.

Cheers for the advice.

Stefan. Thumbs Up

I wonder if this is the reason that the car was traded in? Always suspicious of a fault that occurs so soon after purchase. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

That thought crossed my mind. However it's getting resolved and is now on a three month warranty.

Anything that goes wrong it'll be going straight back to the garage. Lol.

It does seem a good example. 57 plate with 60k miles HSE auto. All previous MOTs passes with only a single advisory of brake pads. All service history was complete at the Land Rover main dealer here in Conwy.

This was the only car I got a 'warm feeling' from. There was many duds about.

I love the car so I just want it fixed so we can enjoy it.

Stefan.

reduced engine perrformance

I have a Freelander 2 diesel automatic gear box (2009 model) having done so far 162,000kms. Last week when I was driving on the motorway, I got the signal reduced engine performance, and the car went limp, lost immediately power without letting me speed above 80kms/per hour. I had twice this problem in the past, first at 80,000kms and second at 131,000 kms. The problem in the first time was solved by changing the fuel (diesel) filter and the second time by reprogramming the turbo charger. This time, when I brought the car to the Land Rover’s mechanics, the diagnostic machine came with the message indicating the fault: “turbocharger overboost” and the recommendation suggested by the computer was to “reflash the turbocharger”. So, they’ve done it and the problem ceased to exist, so far. However, this left me with two questions : 1) what are the possible causes of this loss of power, because it can be dangerous if it happens when you attempt an overtake or if you are in a deserted mountainous place and 2) if there is a necessity of replacing the turbocharger after some time and mileage, which is of course the most unwanted and expensive solution. I would like to hear your views and share your experiences, upon this particular problem.

mines done 286000km or 178,000 miles and still on the original turbo - so I would hope that yours has many miles left to go.
I am sure someone with a better knowledge will be along soon, but I would be looking for a fault either with an actuator or if the turbo has variable vanes, then maybe these are sticking - a common enough fault on other makes of car. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

So. The car came back from the garage we bought it from.

Turns out it was a duff glow plug and sticky EGR valve.

So after a few weeks of no more lights and warnings. Today I have had the restricted performance warning and loss of power four times. Each time just driving along steady speed then dash lights up.😡
Three times cleared itself after a mile or so, last time it was still on as I arrived home. Tried a re-start, just the same.
I have come in and left it. Tomorrow will call LR assist again, or the dealer?
I presume not the previous fault, electrical connector, as this time no amber engine light.
