Garage has called. Apparently it needed a software update. Some LR bulletin which the update resolves. £120 for the update. Can't argue if that's the case Smile Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car

I would if my Freelander had been into a main stealers for a service in the last few months as updates should be done as part of any LR service I would argue. Rolling Eyes FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It was serviced by the same independent that it is in just now. Learned to drive in 2011.

64 million dollar question. If LR is all they do all day long maybe. Anyone any other views ? A non specialist I would say - you pays your money ans takes your chance. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Personally I'd be surprised if they did. The update plus the service and MOT is still cheaper than my local LR dealer was quoting for service alone. Learned to drive in 2011.

Ok, got the car back. All happy.

Looked at the work sheet and it said fault P244A-96 was logged. Failed dpf regen so forced a regen and then updated ECU as per ssm.

I have searched for this code here and found that it is a known thing on early 2011 models and the software should have been updated at service once a check was done.

Considering I bought it approved and has been serviced by LR dealers Im miffed. Have asked customer relations here if this is something I should chase. Learned to drive in 2011.

EGR Valve

This post has been edited by the site administration team - merged into existing thread

Hello hope someone can give me advice here. I see a few posts regarding EGR valve. I have MY13 SD4. Restricted performance warning came on, took to independent LR specialist, plugged into to diagnostic machine which came up with EGR valve. They replaced it but fault still showing and still in restricted performance. Anyone ever had one replaced and still showing fault? Just had service and fuel filter replaced. All hoses & pipes checked and seem ok. The garage have told me further investigation needed, though the EGR valve that came out was pretty manky. I trust this garage as they have pointed major problems in past eg.. steering rack which I had replaced by main dealer under warranty. Hope someone can help. Thanks, PD.

So a little update, and your thoughts appreciated.

Spoke to LR customer relations about the service bulletin for the software update my car had. It would seem a small number of early 2011 models weren't fitted with some form of restrictor which meant they needed a software update. The check for the restrictor should have been done at first service or point of error.

On closer inspection my VIN falls outside the range the bulletin quoted which explains why mine wasn't done as part of the servicing. However as mine is an early 2011 and DOESN'T have the restrictor in place and this needed the software update, to me says the VIN range was wrong as clearly mine fell into the same bracket.

Do you think there is any point in pushing this with LR relations? Learned to drive in 2011.

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

We had REP when our 2011 SD4 was half a year old. At the time it took a few visits to the dealer and a new DPF sensor to fix and it's had been fine up until 2 weeks ago.

Our car had always made a whistling noise under acceleration, however two weeks ago it started to make a rough whoosing noise. Normally before the whistling and only under acceleration above 20mph. The noise is a bit like the swish/rumble of a larger vechile going past you with your window down.

Then as we joined a motorway and was accelerating to 70. REP warning came on and car would not rev above 2krpm. We limped the rest of the journey home and luckily the warning went away the next morning.

After reading this thread and watching the very good YouTube video on the same subject - I found there was a big split in the turbo hose. A couple of cable ties later as a temporary fix as it's due for a service in a months time and not only has the whooshing noise stopped but for some reason the whistling has also got a lot quieter!

I was worried perhaps there was still an issue with the turbo which caused the split and that the lack of whistle meant no turbo, but it drives normal if not better when it has for a while.

Definitely worth checking the turbo pipe if REP is accompanied by a rough whooshing noise.

Only way Independent or dealer will know there is an update is if they have read SDD releases (& have access) from Topix (doubtful) or there is a problem code with a module and when going through the diagnosis process there is a module update listed as part of the resolution process.
If there is any software update available and there is no present DTC's then i'm guessing no dealer or independent will be bothered looking.
I know currently there is an update available for my PAM........my car just had second service by my supplying Land Rover dealer.....no mention of updating my PAM.......what do you think Whistle I know they connected to SDD as my "Service Required" message has been reset.....I rest my case MY15

with regards to the question of garages updating software....

Main dealers should always check for latest software updates to a vehicle brought in for service or other similar work, and update accordingly. Some updates may be chargeable to the customer (but not many) and most will be free as they are recommended by the manufacturer. Topix should show any outstanding updates for your particular vehicle.

Main dealers will not check any fault codes and clear them during a service, or at least that is what I was told by LR Chesterfield (who I wont ever use again for a multitude of reasons)

My local indy, will use LR or better quality parts, check and clear fault codes, stamp the book and even grease the door hinges (something LR Chesterfield also didn't do)

What my indy wont do is software updates.... and this is down to the cost that LR imposes on independent garages to access these updates. Its the main dealer way of forcing us to go to them for work and is the same for any manufacturer.

I will always take my car to a main dealer for its first service (if I didn't buy it from them in the first place) just to ensure that the software is up to date (and hopefully they wont fob me off with excuses)

RogB, what the dealer "should do" and what 'they do" are two different things. Im sure there may be a few good ones out there and if you are lucky to find one then you should really count yourself lucky.
Dealers hate doing software updates because they can take a long time to complete, believe me I know.
As such unless there is a problem all they want to do is change the oil & filters and have a look around and then charge you $$$$$$.
I think if you read through some of the posts on this forum about members who have gone in with issues and the dealer will not commit to anything other than we will charge you for the "investigation process" by the hour.
And just so you know, unless the dealer has an intimate knowledge of all SDD related matters coming through Topix relating to all LR product the only other way to check for software updates is to do a forced diagnostic of every individual module in the vehicle. This can take hours. MY15

Hi Stuart,

I agree, main dealer are good and bad, indys are good and bad.

Im lucky to have a very good indy who ive used for years however he doesn't have the access to software updates as the costs are too high to keep them maintained and current.

The main dealer im referring to is 1 of 3 ive taken my FL2 and my Evoque to (I bought my first FL2 and my current Evoque from them and had services carried out by them on all 3 of my FL2)

The other 2 are both part of the same larger group and both have given me good service. The latest one in particular has been excellent and is closest to my work so Ill certainly use them again where necessary. And they checked the software for me after transfer and gear box change on my Ewok at Xmas.
