sure, the EGR I will blank the EGR definitely... Also no fault message due to closing the EGR?
regarding the flaps there must be a reason why they have put it there, so I'll replace the manifold to a new one, close the EGR and that's it.

I fitted an EGR blank a couple of months ago. Not noticed any difference in engine running or fuel consumption. Took a holiday to Scotland in May/June towing the caravan. No problem there either, possibly marginally better fuel economy. Now I an pondering the swirl flaps..... 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I've been running an EGR blank for more than a year now, largely in an attempt to prevent any issues with the swirl flaps. I didn't notice any significant change in fuel consumption, but the engine is slightly more responsive at moderate power settings (which is as you'd expect as that's where the EGR operates and blanking it means the engine is getting clean air where before it was getting a dose of exhaust fumes), and there's a slight change to the engine note too. The changes are subtle but discernable.

Hey! One of my glow plugs has failed so as I'm replacing them I'm toying with the idea of tackling the swirl flaps however I'm not sure which is the best way to tackle them. The car has done 120k miles.

Is it possible to blank them when they are still in place? I'm looking for the easiest solution as the car is required daily.

Or, is it an idea just to buy a new air intake manifold with the swirl flaps and take the chance?

All thoughts and observations welcome.

I found on ebay a "swirless" manifold for few ££: I'm not inspired yet to do this swap, maybe in next few days....IMHO it's the easiest solution Very Happy

Once you have your manifold out, I think that remove the swirl is better than blank them in place....off course you've to break them to remove



and oh: don't forget the new set of gaskets and blank the vaccum pipe

I've removed them from mine,we did it when we changed the glow plugs.I noticed one was already broken so I just took the lot out.

Guys, just for info I have recently changed my 07 HSE Auto to the flapless manifold. When I removed the old one the actuator was already snapped so the flaps had been flapping around for a while. I got an almost new flapless manifold off ebay from an Evoque. It had a whole set of seals in very good condition as well. If you search ebay using manifold 9659449480 you get quite a bit of choice as they are used on a few cars. I went for the Evoque as the throttle plenum is exactly the same but this can be swapped over. Anyway it is running beautifully. Also blanked the EGR ages ago with no bad side effects just a clean inlet manifold. Dave

Chieftiff, Paul, How did you arranged the vacuum pipe? Did you blanked it? I'm thinking to leave the actuator plugged to vacuum line but disconnected from the swirl shaft....because the manifold I've to swap don't have swirl shaft.... Neutral Smile

Hi Paul, I removed the vacuum actuator. Twist fit. Then refitted it to the new manifold even though it is not connected to any flaps. That way it still looks original and no blanking is required. Hope this helps. Dave
