Torrential Rain

Was driving in torrential rain at the weekend - roads and the motorway was temporarily flooded(!) which i think could be a start of things to come Sad

Is there a better setting to use or is it recommended to just let nature (4x4) take it's course?

For reference, switching through the various modes seemed to help and reduce lag through the tyres

First time I have seen the thread

When I was driving in the same type of rain a year or so ago I switched to GGS, as it reduces risk of slipping

I had cars in the fast lane face the wrong due spinning and wipers going 10 to dozen and could only just see and slowed down for safety

I would agree. putting it in GGS splits the power 50/50 to all wheels.

Haven't tried it yet (the weather's not been that bad since!) but doesn't GGS affect the gearing so would be less suitable at higher speeds? What about the sand option?

I have driven it at motorway speeds in GGS, it changes the cars setup, it's expects wheels slip so reacts faster by cutting power, popping ABS to the wheel that's slips, it also changes the way the throttle responces Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I would just slow down if its raining to hard,
You may get better results with different setting but everybody around you may not have these setting and mite try to keep up with you - you brake they then can't stop and run in to the back of you ???
plus any car in the wet is only as good as the tires.
Would you drive at 70mph in the Snow ??? Censored would you.
And I'm sure the law would have something to say when they have worked your speed out (after the crash )

Didn't necessarily post this question to get into a debate as to the rights and wrongs of driving speeds in different weather and traffic conditions and as far as i'm aware, in this country, we don't yet have any laws to enforce this... however - my assumption was related to what the car can handle and if there was a more specific factory set up to enable driving the car to be safer at higher speeds so please jp, keep your morals and your legal assumptions to yourself. Back to topic, as GGS slows down the reactions of the car (smoother and low rpm shifting, less power & torque from engine, etc.) my advice would be also GGS, if you are not happy with the special programs off setting under that conditions.

However I prefer to use normal setting for such conditions as the car feels less reponsive when GGS selected.

Sand is a no go, as it allows a lot more tyre spin before acting so if you loose traction it might go a long way around before any action (if any). Mud and Ruts is inbetween, so low grip & hard surface is either normal or GGS IMO. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

But if you read Your Freelander 2 Owner's hand book,
page 114, GGS settings' It talk's about driving in the wet ???
also have a read of page 119 under Roll Stability Control (RSC)

I can see were your coming from and what your trying to find out. And theres no e fence taken.

keep your morals and your legal assumptions to yourself (WELL)
(lets hope we both don't have to there, because the law can work things out when it all goes wrong)

(but slowing down will always help in the wet)

FYI We do have a law to cover this driving without due care and attention or reckless driving depending on the severity of the offence the court is not constrained by a specific speed but on their interpretation of conditions and what speed you are doing even it is below the speed limit set for that road.
