United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Loire Blue

My son who is an Agronomist, travels around and between farms all day and he has just replaced his Freelander with a 2.4L Mitsubishi L200 double cab pickup. The feedback so far is that the 4WD is not as sophisticated as the FL2 but with low range and diff lock does everything he needs and is proving OK for what he does and is averaging just over 40mpg.
However what has surprised him is the interest from colleagues and farmers alike who are thinking of going down that route and for £25k new with all the toys and leather seats it shows how LR has abandoned this end of the market 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Perhaps if LR produced a suitable product that they could afford then they would. What would you recommend they do? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Up here (hill farming area) Defenders have been relatively few for some time. Pickups are everywhere.

You can't be serious Taz - what British tractors are farmers supposed to buy then? (JCB excepted).
JLR may be an Indian company but LR have abandoned markets they helped create with their obsession about placing the brand in Victoria Beckham's handbag. They have left large and potentially profitable sectors open for other manufacturers to exploit. I could have two ItchyPussy pickups or two Shoguns for less than that blinged up D4. For the price of the very mediocre Discovery Sport, VW will sell me a 3 Litre Towrag Escape. Car manufacturing in the UK is in great shape - I like my British built Hondas and I suppose a Nissan Cumquat would be ok but LR have consumed their own exhaust gases methinks.

Don't know where you shop Taz but wherever it is you're supporting a foreign company. It's called Global economy.
Just how many imported components go into LR products. 11 GS Bali Blue
07 GS FL2. Usually muddy. Gone
Numerous LRs since 1963

England

I agree with the global economy.

Farmers are now buying these pick ups in their thousands and yet many will jump on the 'Buy British' bandwagon when they are facing tough times, it works both ways ... just saying

Last of the Defenders - the First of the New

For all those FL2 owners who are interested in the last of the Defenders I can tell you that I have just received today an official LR released publication that the first of the New "Defenders" will be on sale before this decade is over.

I've broken my vow of silence as such good news as this deserves release to interested parties.
It's official. Speculation over.
No further comment or postings from me.

FFS !! This is just another Auto Express BS rendering. It has NOTHING to do with JLR and NOTHING to do with the proposed new Defender.
Debating this Auto Express article is a ridiculous waste of time. It's utter BS aimed at Mondeo Man who buys this rag because he thinks he's an expert motoring, and has watched Top Gear a few times.
Anyone remember when Auto Express heralded the arrival of the all new Ford Capri ? Strange they knew all about it, had all the pictures and spec, insider knowledge and release dates , but lacked the most important ingredient - TRUTH. Another made up car with another made up story.

Wait until JLR makes an official announcement - or at least wait until AE has some spy shots of the new Defender at the very least before speculating on it.
