Windscreen wipers fail in automatic mode

Hi,

I've just bought an 07 FL2 SE and I'm having a problem with the automatic rain sensing wipers. The sensor seems to work
fine but the wipers stop after a few wipes in the middle of the screen and then fail to work at all even on manual
mode. I have to stop, turn off the ignition, wait a while and then they work again. In the manual it states that they do
disable themselves if the wipers are obstructed. They are not obstructed at all so I assume it must be the sensor that
detects that they have been obstructed playing up. Anybody had a similar problem, any solutions? I can take the car
back but i need it all this week.

Though you won't see it there is probably stiffness in the linkage or motor drive, this is enough with the drying of the screen to actuate the overcurrent device and shut them down, you need to disconect the linkage at the motor and check for free movement over the arc and run the motor and listen for a slow down at certain points of the linkage arm arc my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm wondering whether its had new blades and they are sticking a little. I've bought some rainx and
applied that so hopefully if it happens again at speed it won't be so serious.

I found that unless you remove all the excess rainx by buffing really well with spmething like an old towel the blades would skip and stutter across the screen. As mentioned above, all the linkages and pivots dry out over time and need a good long lasting lubricant, especially the plastic washer that the wiper arm pivot fits through. WD40 is no good for this. I use a 'wet' chain lube containing Teflon that I have for our mountain bikes.
