2011 Sat Nav Route Problems

I have recently noticed that my 2011 Freelander sat nav is trying to send me on very poor routes. For example on a journey from East Sussex to Stalham in Norfolk the sat nav route was 217 miles and 4 hours 57 minutes. This compared with 169 miles and 3 hours 19 minutes on Google maps and similar distance / time on Tomtom. Looking at the Land Rover sat nav route it is clearly sending me a long way around and in not using the fastest roads (M11 / A11). I have checked the settings and it is set to use major roads and fastest route. Strangely if I set it to avoid motorways the journey time is reduced.

I have owned my Freelander for 4 years and didn't notice a problem with the sat nav until recently. I spoke with my local dealer and with LR customer care and was advised that a software update 'may' improve it, but they seemed doubtful and they want to charge me £150+vat to try this.

Can anyone advise if this is normal for the Land Rover sat nav and if there is a solution?
