I worked on several field sport estates in my youth, I'm afraid anyone who says fox hunting with hounds is an 'effective' means of fox control is a bit ignorant. 
Hung like Einstein, smart as a horse.

They still fox hunt in my local town.
And in the process trample through private gardens breaking down fences and garden furniture.

All us other UK mortals thought hunting a fox was banned and also that it was illegal to trespass on private property..... not them however. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

When my daughter was 11 she went on a school outing to Chatsworth house and got into conversation with a man that thought she would be into fox hunting as she had her own pony.
Her teacher told me she countered every argument he put forward on fox hunting including asking how could he say fox hunting kept down the number of foxes while also saying the hunt actively encouraged foxes to breed.
He eventually gave up and thanked her for the conversation.
The teacher then asked if she knew that the man she had been talking to for the last 20 minutes was the Duke of Devonshire. Mine, Saab convertible

That's the problem - there isn't. A pack of dogs is, in practice, a sure kill - yes it's not pretty, but it's over quickly. Shooting leaves injured animals to die in agony, and poison is even worse. I'm actually not pro-hunting and would prefer that it didn't happen, but I am a realist and can see that there's a need to control the fox population and that shooting really isn't the best way.

Of course the fox is humane in its kill, after having a visit just after 7 this morning, the has torn the heads and necks off, ripped the guts out of three and taken the fourth away, he doesn't give a how it kills needlessly. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The foxes go out killing everything needlessly, just for fun ? What else does that I know, humans that all where good at killing
