I have noticed a few 4x4 dealers around here (Dorset/Somerset) who seem to live off LandRovers that are a bit too old or high mileage for local dealers, it might be worth giving one or two in your area a call. When I traded one of my FL2s in to a LR dealer a couple of years ago they called the outfit below and he gave them a price over the phone based on their description.

Thanks dorsetfreelander.

I have just contacted The Car People (quite a big Leeds/Sheffield/Manchester based car trader) who I have purchased cars off in the past and have been impressed with their service and the have just offered me £7.400 p/x against a £15,500 X-Trail. This selling lark is not going as well as I expected. Maybe I should pop it on fleabay for £9,500 Crying or Very sad Big Cry

It is almost irrelevant what a dealer offers in p/x - surely it's the cost to change which is important. Do your homework on the prospective purchase and what you think your car is worth and the difference is what you haggle over.

Very few main dealerships will want a 6year old car on their books and will invariably send it to auction so the wbac price is what they offer but as I said above this is irrelevant as you negotiate the price to change.

Good luck with your endeavours. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Advice please - realistically should I be looking for around £9.5k to privately sell a 59 plate SE with sun roof, electric pack etc. 91k miles, FSH etc etc. Or is £9k more realistic?

I will get it through its MOT this week as well and have it valeted (those half leather seats don't half stain when you are transporting a load of teenagers who have just played a football match).

Then I've got cash rather than p/x

TBH, I think you will be lucky to get £8,500. It is too close to 100k, summer is coming so 4x4s are less in demand.

2 years ago in March/April I sold my 103k 08 plate SE for £8,500 to a cash buyer through Auto Trader. The buyer was the only responder to the ad & he took 3 weeks to follow up from the first enquiry. Whistle We RV'd in Stoke as he lived in Merseyside. Shocked Cash hand over in a pub car park! I think I was lucky.

This is an interesting thread, and it's a decision process I'm going through myself at the moment as unfortunately I'm just not getting on with my FL2.

I have considered the Subaru, but my local dealer has just taken on the franchise and they know nothing about them (I even caught the chap having a sly look at the bootlid to tell me what it was! Whistle )

There aren't many vehicles the same size as the FL2 - the obvious candidates (Škoda Yeti, VW Tiguan, Dacia Duster) are all smaller, so the alternative is to go up a size.

There are a few similar-sized vehicles: Audi Q5 and BMW X3 spring to mind, but the ride in the Q5 was terrible compared the the FL2 (just about shook my fillings out) and the BMW dealer just ignored me when I went in there so I don't know anything more about them.

The Mitsubishi Outlander was also on my list, but there's just something about it that's lacking, and I don't quite know what.

Other than that, you're in to double-cab pickup territory, VW Amarok, Toyota Hilux, Mitsi L200 et al, but I've already got a DC pickup Defender Very Happy Gordon

Yes for me the Mitsubishi Outlander looks like a good replacement for FL2 (and a lot cheaper) but somehow I can't get worked up about it. Looks too bland perhaps? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

know what you mean, back end awful also sat it one and felt like I was on the road !!! downside of being 5'3" perhaps but need driver seat height and outlandr went nowhere near it, tried quite a few but settled on the Tiguan as very nice driving position and very similar to freelander. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Going through this for the wife at the moment. Her FL2 (the one in my sig) has sadly been nothing but expensive trouble. We bought it at about 25K and 2 yrs old and it will be 8 years old tomorrow! But boy have we spent some money on it over the years. Nothing catastrophic, but £300 here, £500 there, another £275 etc etc etc etc.

She loves it as a car, but we never seem to go more than a few weeks without there being a new problem.

I'm a huge Land Rover fan and have been driving Discos for 17 years. But we'll probably run the the FL2 replacement for at least 5 or 6 years and I just don't want to go through the same sorts of issues again.

So, I've been looking at all sorts of options - the last of the current VW Tiguans are very cheap at the moment. There are decent discounts on the Q5. But I keep coming back to a brand that I would never, ever have considered even a couple of years ago...Kia.

They have brand new Sportage and Sorento models out. Loaded with 'kit'. Decent towing capacities. But, more than anything, they come with 7 year warranties! And it's that more than anything which is swaying me towards them.

If Land Rover had enough faith in their own product to put a 5 year warranty on it - I wouldn't look elsewhere. But every LR mechanic I talk to can tell you tales of where a few extra pence spent on the original build would have saved hundreds, if not thousands of pounds a few years later. Even the bolts they use are renowned for having poor quality plating, so seizing and causing major issues to remove them. If they've improved things, great, they should shout about it, but they don't and it's not the story I'm hearing.

So, currently very unlikely to buy another FL2 or even Disco Sport. But getting rid of the current one will be a day of very mixed emotions!

if you want Towing, Kit and Warranty have a look at the new Rexton W. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

The facelifted Outlander is a vast improvement.

I'm seriously looking at a Vitara 1.4S auto - I can get two for the price of a DS with my spec.

Love my Freely2 and its going so well that I am keeping it until Mitsubishi bring this to the UK

It will probably be called the Shogun Sport to revive an old model name for UK markets.
Just exactly what I am after - basically an L200 with an SUV body - a market sector that LandRover have no interest in.
