I had this with my old FL2 they suggested the same leave it it will be ok it will go on like that for ages, then they said its needs doing without delay, once the warranty has just expired mind you. |

Topix seems to suggest that it is necessary only to remove 4 transmission bolts, not the gearbox itself? |

And this why I will never trust main dealers of any manufacturers. I had another major service done by a trusted indy in May and they never picked it up. Not to say it wasn't there but if it did need doing then I would certainly get a 2nd indy opinion on it rather than trust the stealers. Bit of a moot point now for me anyway as Im now no longer a LR owner, but your info on lack of gaskets enforces my personal opinion of how much all main dealers rip us off for. |

If it's the component we're all assuming it's referred to as the oil pan extension, and the Topix instructions for removal are straightforward and don't require the removal of either engine or gearbox, just 4 transmission bolts. And LR do refer to the seal as a gasket, as in "Remove the gasket". |

Is the idea to use the casting from your original engine? I think the trick must be to undo the transmission bolts and ease the gearbox off the engine say 5mm whilst still all attached. Automotive Silicone is sold as 'instant gasket' which is where the reference must come 'remove the gasket'. I would still wish to know what caused the crack in the first place.

Yes, that is a bit worrying! I know the donor car was involved in some sort of a shunt, but have no oother details apart from that. I suppose all I can do is get the part changed and hope for the best. Before the leak was spotted, engine has been running and apparently sounds very sweet - fired up on the first press of the button!
