The DS appears to be going the way of past SUV boxes such as the Honda CRV and Nissan X-Trail and becoming an overgrown estate car. I seem to remember the original Disco had an interior designed by Terence Conran with tweedy fabrics and removable luggage. Plus a lot of graphics on he outside. But let us not forget that the above will also help to secure the existing work force on Merseyside and the West Midlands fully employed here in the UK; and with further expansion into new global markets comes the real potential for yet more new full time jobs to be created at all Land Rover sites and third party component suppliers. That's good for the UK's economy as a whole. |

Sure it's good for the economy, but I remain unconvinced they couldn't have done just as well by using Range Rover to address the lifestyle end of the market (a 7-seat Evoque would cover the lifestyle end of the DS market) whilst leaving Land Rover products to address the more practical end. IF the Defender replacenent comes in as a 'proper' 4x4 then it's not quite so bad, but the noises coming out of LR suggest that it's going to be yet another lifestyle vehicle, leaving not a single real 4x4 in the lineup. Whilst that might not be so bad financially for LR it's a real shame given their heritage. |

We do indeed live in hope - for there's no alternative that I would want to buy - and to buy a new last-of-the-line current Defender is not an option I would consider. Hope springs eternal |

Halewood have replied to me, I asked the question as to when we can arrange a forum meet and visit the factory when the new car is going down the line, my plan is to get is in there as some of the first 'visitors' to see the new car in production.

Quite. This is the real problem - with the death of the FL we're left with nowhere to go. The Forester used to be a reasonable alternative (albeit not quite as good as the FL), but it's got expensive and Subaru have dropped low range from the manuals making it unattractive for me. One car I would take a close look at, having seen a few video reviews from US car shows, is the 4Runner, but that's not available in the UK. The market used to be flooded with good (for their time) 4x4s, but now there are none. Shame. |

I agree that there are no alternatives. I really like the looks and features of the LR2 but lack of a dealer nearby is preventing me from making a purchase.

Go for it - you know you want to! Maybe get one that's out of warranty, then you don't have to worry about dealer servicing.
The one I liked the look of is known as the Trail version in the States, and that seems to have similar 4WD capabilities to the FL2. I've no idea what it would cost over here though - probably too much given exchange rates, etc.
That's a pity, as they're really very good cars. I've owned two, and my brother and his wife around half a dozen between them. If I had to trade in the FL for something else right now it might well be another Forester. But I have no plans to do that, because the FL is better. |

Yeah I probably should go for it. We prefer to buy new and time is running out as the 2015 models will not be around for long. I suppose if there are problems I could just try to repair them myself and pay for parts.
