Haldex failure at 19K miles

My friend has just been told his 3 year old FL2 XS auto needs a new Haldex unit- costing 」1700. Its only done 19K miles Shocked has been driven sympathetically and has not been off-roaded.

Is the FL installation of the Haldex system particularly prone to early catastrophic failure ? Just out of warranty in this case.

The system is used by other manufacturers of 4x4 vehicles eg Skoda, but you dont seem to hear of Haldex failures with these very often (if ever ) whereas it seems to be a sore point with the FL2. Any comments ? Jules

The Haldex issue with the FL2 would appear to be the whine which emanates from the diff pinion bearing, a repair to this is around 」500.
Catastrophic failures are uncommon.
It may be worth contacting Land Rover customer services, Mike on this forum is a representative, there may be a case where the unit could be covered partially by them as a goodwill gesture, you only have to ask.

Good luck with your friend and hope he gets an agreeable solution.

Actual failure of Haldex is not particularly prone in FL2. Bad luck I guess. Approach LR Customer Services for a contribution. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Echo the above. It may also be worth getting a second opinion, as certain Dealers don't diagnose the fault correctly, end up replacing Haldex units unnecessarily, only for the same problem to return because it was the diff pinion bearing as mentioned above all along! Foraging near Gaydon....

My 2 year old FL2 had to have the Haldex unit replaced after about 30000 miles - never offroaded or abused. Then about 6 months later the replacement Haldex unit needed replacing!!!! Twisted Evil

Quite an uncommon fault but what the odds of me having to have 2 in the space of 6 months??

nb - anyone on here bought a 11 plate SD4 HSE Bali Blue in the last 5 months? Whistle Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
