I would rather get the fault logged with them as you say it's a known fault..

Body shop also know of issue although it's not on the LR portal.

As well as paint repair they put clear film underneath to protect it in the future.

Any word from JLR yet? I've not heard anything as yet from Pentland but I am not sure how long these things take and will let you know the outcome. I'd appreciate it if you could post when you hear from them.
Thanks.

No word back yet, but no suggestion they wont say yes. On a good point, the dealer has apologised for this by offering to collect the car from my home, leaving a replacement and then returning the car with a full tank of fuel. Cajt argue.

Had an opportunity to look at her Ladyship's FL2 rear tailgate handle this afternoon. Externally nothing evident, so decided to remove the tailgate handle completely for a thorough inspection. Result:

There are a number of "contact" scratch points across the whole width and height of the tailgate handle. It has only been on her FL2 for less than 12 mths following an upgrade from the original shorter tailgate handle.

So spent a couple of hours repairing the scratch points and then placing protective transparent barrier tape and closed cell foam strips to prevent a repeat. Conclusion: the latest handle design/fitment is susceptible to in-service contact vibration resulting in the tailgate suffering damage to its paint finish.

Pleased to say that I got a call from Pentland today to book in my car for repair - JLR have agreed the warranty claim....happy days, although it would have been better if the tailgate hadn't rusted in the first place!

Excellent. Mine is getting collected on Monday for repair.

What is slightly concerning though is I took another look at the issue yesterday and can no longer see the chipped paint. I can only assume the handle has shifted position and sunk down a little. Thankfully I have photos.

Quick update on this. Car was collected on Monday of last week and should be getting it back tomorrow or Tuesday. Couple of other things being looked at hence the time taken.

Good to know there were no quibbles over it considering it hadn't started rusting.

Just looked at mine and it's starting to go on one edge where it's chipped/worn paint down to primer Sad
Is there a LR reference I can give my dealer about this issue if it's already known to them? Just thought it might speed it up or make it easier if I could refer them to it.
Just as a matter of interest, are all our cars MY2011? 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I don't believe there's an LR bulletin - certainly the body shop and the dealer I spoke to said as much, but it is an issue they see regularly enough to know about it.

My car is a 60 reg face lift - VIN says its a MY2011.

Thank you.

It does seem we've all got MY11 then. I wonder if newer ones have a modified mount.

Will see what happens when I pop into my dealer. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

From what I've been told, the paint isn't the issue. Its the long handle that runs the width of the boot. It moves and impacts the paint, I assume via vibrations while driving and also while closing the boot.

When I first spotted the issue, the metal was clearly visible on both sides. Bit I looked a few days ago again and I couldn't see either - so the whole unit had moved. Day before it was collected I could see the issue again, suggesting it had moved again.

Car back. As expected there's no sign of the issue. Cant see any obvious film that they said would be applied. Either way I'm happy as this was dealt with under warranty (don't know if it was original paint warranty or my extended one).

Well done LR

Heard back from dealer today - LR authorised repair under warranty and car booked in for 3 days for completion (!) week after next. Clearly a known issue! 2011 SD4 HSE Auto
