2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Lago Grey
WANTED roof rails and bars for panoramic sunroof

Hey all,

I've just bought an 07 FL2 SE (Panoramic Sunroof, but no roof rails) and need some roof rails and bars as I'm an active kayaker.

Anyone got any available?

I've looked at the Thule system but have always had reservations (for solid 5-boats-down-a-motorway reasons) about the clamp round door type.

Cheers!

Just got quoted £370 to have them supplied and fitted by main dealer. Does this sound about right?

Still keen to have a second hand set if anyone's got any?!

Fitting them yourself is a fairly straight forward job.

I got my set of rails off eBay from Fews of Wooton under Edge for only £252 delivered.

Have just noticed a pre loved set for model with sunroof has just been listed on eBay, Item Number eBay Item No. 251234987272 Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Cheers RT, that's exactly what I'm after (with some cross bars!). Unfortunately he wants them picked up from Yorkshire!

I wonder about the OEM-style ones on eBay for half price...

If it helps I still have the LR box and packaging that my rails came in, if you win the auction I could post them to the seller.
Don't know what it would cost but it would not be more than £10.
Not sure about the OEM models, it appears that nobody on the forum have tried them or not willing to admit it. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

I've had a set of Thule ones on both my Freelanders and carried a roof box to Switzerland and back and also a ski rack to Switzerland and back and have had no issues with them. Just about to use them again going to Austria. Much cheaper than OEM and when removed leave no trace they've ever been fitted.

Guys, thanks again for your help with this! I didn't win the auction, but am encouraged that they came up on eBay. Looks like the setup will come in under half of the new price. I'll keep hanging around for another set...

I would be prepared to use ebay copies such as side steps and door handle covers. As for load carrying or structural parts...............£145 for ebay copies or £252 from a dealer. Loads and risk. Injury and damage. Insurance declaration. Mmmm, not sure. A Land Rover owner since 1988

From a 1974 series III to a 12MY XS FL2 with help of a 1995 D1, 1996 D1, 2005 D3, 2007 D3 and a 2009 FL2.

Checked with insurance no declaration required as they are designed for the vehicle. Had they been of a different design to Landrover then would be considered as a modification. They use the exact same fittings as the Landrover ones. Having seen the landrover ones these are far superior and fit much better. I hav seen two sets of rails fitted by landrover dealers that had gaps between the roof and rail ends and poor fitting plastic fittings. These bars are a nice snug fit, very good quality supplied by a company that do a lot of landrover specific OME fittings. To be fair there is only one way to fit rails to a freelander and so only one type of fitting will fit. Beause these aren't sold by landrover doesn't mean they are inferior. Personally I think they are better and the price is a bonus. Out of interest what dealer quoted £252 as best I found was £270 plus vat from a none dealer who could order in landrover rails.

I got them from Fews of Wootten under edge.

They have them listed on eBay:_

But I phoned direct and paid £257.0 Inc VAT and Postage - they arrived next day! Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

That's a good price certainly cheaper than I could get locally. My problem was I needed them quickly so was looking locally. The e bay ones were close enough to go look at and collect.

Thanks for all the info guys.

On the balance of it, I think I'll spend the little extra and get genuine LR ones. Still on the lookout for the rails (then ill source the bars - far more of these about).

Cheers!
