Derbyshire Greenlaning

Hi folks,

Just wondered how many of you might be up for greenlaning in the peak district.

I have got an OS map for the dark peak area (castleton, hathersage etc) aka Athelstan's old stomping ground which shows all legal routes. Must make sure everything is legal cos the cops have been running Operation Blackbrook to clamp down on 4x4's going where they shouldn't. Plus we are responsible motorists Laughing

Not sure when this could be cos I am a bit busy with exams and coursework at uni at the moment in addition to my full time job. No rest for the wicked! LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Doc, I'll keep a "watching" brief on this and if your playtime coincides with a family visit I'll say hello.

Routes

Here is the list to be covered (subject to change):

Moor Lane, Little Eaton
Back Lane, Darley Moor
Unnamed Road, Near Chatsworth
Unnamed Road, Monsal Dale to Brushfield
Sough Lane, Near Taddington
Bridleway near Castleton (if suitable)
Hough Lane, Hough

Surely there are some more of you who fancy joining us for this excursion. With a bit of luck there will be some heavy rain just before so that there are some nice big puddles/mini floods to splash through Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver
Back Lane, No Go if you like your paintwork ?

Hi All, First time poster.

Having recently got a FL2 and attending the Landrover Experiance at Eastnor Castle (Highly recomended), I wanted the kids to enjoy a little bit of off roading -- I of course was dead against it Smile

Anyway, following The Doctors posts I am only 5 minutes away from Back Lane and thought I would give it a try.

I modified the route a little and started at 'Flash Lane' and carried on when it breaks into 'Back Lane'. The road is completely fine (3 wheels at some points etc) until you get near the bottom after a brief tarmac section you can go left onto 'Butchers Lane' or straight on down 'Back Lane' to where it eventually meets the B5057.

Now, this latter bit is ok until half way down where it gets very very narrow and very uneven. Certainly passable, but not if this is your everyday family car !!

We reversed a bit, did a 200 point turn, and went back up the route we had followed.

All passable, both directions, Flash Lane -- Back Lane, ending at Butchers Lane.

Just thought I would update....if anyone is brave enough to dry the bottom bit of Back lane let me know, I wanted to try but decided the risk to the shiny paintwork was too high.

It was very dry today, just waiting for rain and snow to liven it up a bit.
