Thanks for that Andy 131. I don't reset the trip everytime no have just relied on range in the past but feel sure I should have about half a tank left. By your post do you think it's unlikely that it is fuel pump then?

I haven't heard of a pump failure.
I currently have a failed tank sender, there were several reported crank sensor failures on earlier cars.
Sensor failures are common on most types of car, not all of them give an error code even though they should.
Immobiliser systems can and do get scrambled / fail.

The only way is to get your car to a diagnostic reader, preferably in the hands of someone who knows your model of car -

PS failed tank sender does NOT give an error code Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

My goodness I last posted 2 weeks ago and my landy still in garage!!! They have been clutching at straws and replaced fuel pumps etc but to no avail! They have said today that end of cam shaft broken. £2000 to put right. Can this be true? Do they break or fail. My Landy has full history. Are they just making this up to cover the cost of having vehicle 2 weeks?

Probably not wrong. There have been a number of cases of the high pressure fuel pump failing (seizing up) and causing the cam to snap off where the pump lug fits into the cam slot. I wonder if they have factored in the cost of a new pump?...not cheap! Big Cry

One of the causes mooted for the pump failure is the decreasing ability of diesel fuel to lubricate the pump as diesel fuels used to. A chief motivator for putting 2 stroke oil in the fuel.......cue argument and run away! Very Happy John

Yes, it can be true. There are a lot of cases on the Russian forum (www.lr-club.ru).
Please tell us, in order to corroborate with the other cases, which are the last 6 digits of you VIN and how many miles has your car.
It seems that cars manufactured up until March 2008 that have around 60000+ miles are in danger...
Strange that your car is a manual one. All other cases were automatics...

Happen to be driving an early (March) 2008 automatic with 65,000 miles on the clock - wondering if 2 stoke now sounds like a good idea Shocked used it early days but saw no benefit, and didn't like the idea of putting an additive in the tank that has a red dye, as I pass a VOSA inspection point every day on the way into work. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Using 2SO is your choice but it does not have to be red. I use Comma 2SO which is green. In any case I do not think you would have a problem. There are diesel additives on the market which are red and it is not the same as using red diesel. The testing guys will know exactly what they are looking for and their gear is so sensitive that they will know if you are using red diesel or additives. John

My car stopped whilst on a motorway many months ago, and I had to coast to a slip road. Car turned over but wouldn't fire. Checked fuel filler, and a huge inrush of air occurred. I had taken car through high grass a couple of days before, and the motorway trip was the first long journey since then. I therefore wonder if the breather might have blocked. The car had to be recovered and spent a couple of days at a local garage, who brought in an expert to try to cure problem. Car then restarted without any new parts. I don't do up the filler cap tight anymore (as when I did there was a noticeable suction in of air) and, touch wood, the issue not re-occurred. LR fairly unhelpful when I spoke to them about it, saying they couldn't check the breather and I would have to replace whole filler pipe assembly into tank.

Both the Freely's I've had suck in air when I've undone the filler cap, I think you will find its normal.

The rush of air is from the filler is then followed a few minutes later by a similar sucking of air when I see what its cost to fill it Whistle

There are in-rushes or air, and then there was the massive in-rush of air to my filler tank after the car stopped. The fact the "expert" couldn't find any problems leads me to believe the tank isn't breathing. Could be wrong, but can't find any other explanation. Didn't have the in-rush of air problem before the issue I described, other than as you say due to the cost of filling up the Censored .
