Flaking exhaust coating

Has anyone had any issues with the dark coating on the rear exhaust box flaking off! The vehicle has only done 9,000 miles from new in November 2011.

It happens to all exhausts to a greater or lesser extent with the possible exception of stainless steel ones.

Maybe I have missed something here but I thought all FL2 exhausts were stainless. Mine certainly is. Just what us polishing chrome OCD people need! I can get under my car armed with some Autosol and wire wool and have the exhaust box shining nicely in no time. Very Happy Very Happy John

Agreed, it is stainless and the coating left mine months ago and will have no affect on its life.

The black paint on my silencer was coming off in places, so I used a can of B&Q's matt black high temperature BBQ spray paint to tidy it up.

The black paint on her Ladyship's MY2010 FL2 has in parts detached itself the the rear box. Unfortunately we do not have a B&Q here in CH so I've done nothing about her makeup Razz

Thanks for the replies. When I mentioned it to the dealership they seemed suprised by the peeling coating and said they would order some heat resistant paint for it. Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto in Orkney Grey
