First time out last night in the dark in the new sd4 2012

the lights looked a bit dim compared to ones in old td4 (2009)are the new projector lights /lens to blame

You are right - they are not great, but when I fitted Osram Nightbreakers (both bulbs H7 and H11) they got better. Also I had the alignment checked and was able to lift them a bit and that made a significant difference, and since I had that done nobody has flashed me so everybody is happy.

Uprated bulbs are the way to go, be careful fitting them though, the bulbs need to be seated properly as the projector beam is very sensitive to the bulb position. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

Same here. Not only much brighter, but a much shaper cut off too.

People say that the pre-projector lights were much better but, when I drove a loan car fitted with the original lamps and standard bulbs, the original lights were every bit as hopeless as the projector lamps.

I had Halfrauds bulbs in previous car for three years.
Touch the glass envelope with fingers and they will last weeks, make sure you don't touch them and they will last Thumbs Up

And they'd be wrong. Mine are now around 6 months and 20 -25,000 miles old (over winter) and they are both fine still. Not that long yet, but 20-25,000 miles certainly isn't "for weeks".

Trick is not to let the Halfords guys fit the bulbs for you Rolling Eyes . I was outside Halfords the other day and watched a spotty scrote in his illuminous jacket smear his greasy fingers over a new h7 and then rub it on the inside of his jacket. The bulb is sure to last a month tops and the lady will be back for another one Censored Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
