LR2 reverse / backup camera on OEM navi screen

Hey everyone!

So I had some free time to make a video (short) from my LR2 showing how the GVIF works for the back up / reverse camera and also how it switches inputs.
This was a super easy install with results that are awesome.

You must have the OEM screen on a navigation section in order for the GVIF to switch video sources. Once vehicle gets put in reverse, via a 12 volt wire the GVIF switches the screen to the reverse / backup camera. Fantastic!

I also have a toggle switch to change through the different inputs. I only have one active right now, but working on a Digital TV tuner. I have it converted to 12 volt power supply but I just haven't installed it yet.

More videos to come...

Let me know what you think Thumbs Up

Indeed!

Although be careful if you decide to order it because the LR2 / freelancer II uses a total different video cable than the Discovery / LR3-LR4 and so on.

I purchased mine for a third party but I got the correct video cable from a seller here in the US.
He was great at giving me advice and help to set it up correctly. Send me a pm if anyone need his info. Cuatro Por Cuatro

I purchased the camera from a different seller since it was much cheaper. But it can all be bought from the same place as the GVIF.

This is how the camera looks like:

pretty easy install and it replaces one of the plate lights at the rear door. It looks factory

the light output for the plate from the camera is a bit on the weak side, but it works. Cuatro Por Cuatro

I am not sure, the one thing I do know is that the seller here in the US will ship to anywhere in the world!!!!!!

Did I mention he is great with customer service and technical support? I am rarely impressed with service from companies online, but this guy (Tony) did made a difference in my whole purchase and service experience.

Also, I do not own any stock on this company or am affiliated in any way to him, ha ha. Thought I would throw that out now since it "seems" i am helping him sell products.

Let me know if there is any questions i can answer on the install. It is pretty easy to do. Cuatro Por Cuatro

In the UK you can buy this kit from HIDS4U.co.uk http://www.hids4u.co.uk/multimedia-video-interface/

I found this by Googling around but one of the DISCO forums gets a good discount from them, unfortunately I don't have the URL to the site with me at work.

cheers - Andrew

I emailed HIDS4U yesterday, here is their response Sad

Hi Andy,

Many thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately at the moment none of the GVIF interfaces we do are suitable for the Freelander due to their connections, this is something we are looking into and I am hopeful that we will have a unit suitable in the not too distant future.

I hope this helps, sorry we couldn't help on this occasion, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions or comments.

Kind Regards

As 4Por4 says it's the cabling that seems to be the issue for us in the UK. Although it could be possible to source the cables from 4Por4's contact in the US...

Sorry to hear that.
Luckily there is a solution Smile

I am going to post the link to the seller here in the US, hoping I am not breaking any rules of the forum.

If you order from him, you must email him first and tell him that you have a freelancer II or LR2 so he can send you the correct video cable.
