United States 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

I was at the dealership today for a rear door not locking. They said it would be no problem to have that fixed and asked if I had any other issues. So I said I had noticed a headlight was starting to form a film on the inside and that I was hearing a faint whine in the rear of the vehicle.
4 hours later I get a call and I am told that the differential bearing is going to have to be replaced. Along with other many parts that goes by it like seals and such. Also, the headlight is going to be replaced for a brand new one and the door is fixed.

They are keeping my baby for another 3 days.

I sure am glad it is still under LR warranty.
The headlamp itself is $1300 USD Shocked Cuatro Por Cuatro

Well mine has had a severe whine from the back axle since new but only when very hot. The rear axle whines so loudly the girls in the back cannot hear us talk in the front !

Trouble is it only whines when it gets to 470 miles non stop but has done it every year driving through France but L/r wont change the Haldex unit as its not noisey when they test drive it !

Now its just broken 20,000 miles and out of warranty I bet it fails.

UPDATE:

Received my LR2 back today. My service rep said the bearing and seals were replaced due to finding debris inside the differential. Haldex unit is good. Cuatro Por Cuatro

My 07MY went in for service and MOT at dealers last week. They investigated the droning sound coming from the rear and have established the diff bearings are knackered. The repair for this is estimated at 486 quid. On the basis, I do not not consider this to be fair wear and tear at less than 50k miles, I contacted LR customer relations and they have agreed to pay 33% of the cost.

I was quite impressed with LR as it only took a phone call and for them to contact my dealer to see how well maintained my car is! They said it was touch and go at 5 years old, but owing to fact my family have bought 3 FL2's over the passed 5 years, they honoured the contribution. Much better than Ford, as they told me to f Censored k off (politely) when my mondeo of the ame age sufferred with valve problems. I guess it's another reason for paying the price for servicing at main dealers Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

I've tried not to get paranoid about noises as my FL2 is fine at the moment, blissfully driving with my MP3 on loud.
Now I find myself turning it down occasionaly for a quick listen of noises. Must be a form of OCD!

EY,
Don't think OCD therapy will have any benefit.

Is there a noise cancelling device I can install I wonder? Laughing

Having had the dreaded power steering whine, noisy leaking aircon compressor, vibrating DMF; all now fixed, ad1234545 has got me listening for rear diff noise.

I'm convinced i'm going bonkers Laughing Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
