Does yours wobble?

Took the FL out on its first proper run today and dissapointingly discovered a weird wheel wobble between 60 - 80mph that I thought was fixed when the stealer prepped it Big Cry

I dont think it can be wheel balance as I spotted it when I test drove it with the origional 17's and I have since put on some nearly new 18s that have just been ballanced (by kwickfit so I suppose it is not completly out of the question that they Censored it up) but also the way it manifests itself does not suggest wheel balance...

Basically I can be doing 70 on cruise and it does not wobble, but then about 5 mins later it can get a pretty big wobble on but still doing 70 on cruise! This happens all the way between 60 and 77ish Whistle mph, the wobble getting bigger the faster I go.

Now I do have it booked into the stealers to sort a few othe minor problems (including an intermittant SRS light Evil or Very Mad but this feels like one of those that if not given the correct attention could go on and on and on...

Feels to me like it could be an engine mount / drive shaft / suspension / ball joint related problem Idea but just wondered if you guys have any experience Question

I have looked elswhere on the forum but not sure if anyone actually came to any kind of conlusion Exclamation Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

It could be wheel balance or wheel alignment/tracking that is out. This is what will give a front wheel wobble at about 70.

I have had it on virtually every car i have owned at some time or other, and has always been found to be wheel balance or tracking. Kwikfit have never balanced a wheel of mine properly ever!

Tracking requires specialist equipment to fix.

Would be unlikely at this stage, until you have nailed down the above, to be anything else. Chris

Don't forget that changing wheels does not alter the Tracking. If the tracking is out, then changing wheels makes no difference at all. Chris

With my previous FL1 dealer quoted me £400 for tracking, most of the usual grages cant do it as they do front wheels only. ATSEuromaster did it correctly (4 wheel tracking) for £70. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

Not all ATS centres have the 4 wheel tracking facility and even there, they initially tried to say that FL is ok with just front wheel tracking so if you are going for it insist that you need 4 wheel tracking. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

If you get wobble thru the steering wheel, and it is a balancing or tracking issue, then it is more likely to be associated with the front wheels.

If you get a vibration thru your seat and pedals, and it is a balancing or tracking issue, then it is more likely to be associated with the rear wheels.

Tho, it cannot be a denied, a full 4 wheel check is the best. Thumbs Up Chris

Sounds almost certainly like balancing. I had similar recently, but after having tyres replaced and fresh weights put on front, problem gone ------- for now!
Suggest get balance weights re-checked first as much cheaper!

Mine has the same thing and I am about to go to court about it.

I had the wobble mainly around 135 km/h at the beginning, now it's all around the place. The car has been at the dealers multiple times, and no fix.

They have first said that the car has no problem from tyres as they tried a full set of other tyres from another car, and this did not fix. Then they tried to replace every shaft or axle one by one (two week at the dealers), and no change.

Then they said that they had tried a haldex unit from another car on mine, and that it cures the problem, so ordered a new haldex. After the replacement of haldex, let alone to be cured, the wobble is getting worse. Now I have it also around 60 - 80 km/h and a light wobble can be felt at all speeds.

My advice, get rid of that car as soon as you can, brcause these Censored don't know anything about cars, and they cannot fix it. Evil or Very Mad 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Thanks for this wintermute - I did see your post (sorry yours is not sorted yet) this did get me thinking which is why it did cross my mind to reject it... Anyway it goes in Tuesday and I will be giving them the benefit of the doubt to see if they can get it right - it sounds as though most wobble problems are cuased by wheel balancing although there are obviously isolated cases of something more horrifying.

Put it this way - If they dont then I will be having serious words....
