My first Land Rover, couple of problems!

Hi all, great forum with loads of help and tips. Picked up our first LR yesterday a 2007 FL2 xs I knew it had a fault on the lcd of the radio screen so i got a full sat nav system of ebay, i'm hoping the front screen/panel will just swap out.

Anyway a couple of problems i did'nt know about.

The battery warning light stays on all the time, doesn't seem to be a problem starting. When we start the car it does go out but then comes on after about 10 seconds and stays on.

The front 12V plug/lighter doesn't work and looks like someone had a go at it to try and lever it out, i'm just off to check the hand book to see if it's got it's own fuse.

Hope someone can help!

Cheers.

common fault dating back to the recall of the ptc heater, the socket wont have been reconnected whilst rebuilding the console At work

Before you take out the console check the fuses, on mine the fuse had blown, Mini Blade under the bonnet next to the battery.

There are two seperate circuits, the rear one is permanant live and the front one is live when the ignition is on.

Battery is on the nearside under the bonnet and the fuse box you need on this occasion is adjacent to the battery. Thumbs Up

update on the battery, my local garage who i use for all our company vans did a check on the voltage of the battery and alternator.

Alternator was 13.7 a bit low my garage said.

The battery was jumping between 12.5 and 13.8

Can anyone confirm what they should be Thumbs Up

Your alternator output is in the right ball park. Depends of course on what loads were switched on at the time but i assume non and the engine rpm. But at tickover 13.7V is fine.

Strange that the battery voltage is bouncing about. But i think you should take a reading after all the ECU's have shut down. Try it after about an hour after you've locked the car.

Update.
It went back to the garage i bought the car from yesterday. They changed the battery but no change. They then took it to a Landy specialist in Doncaster but it wasn't booked in and they didn't have much time to work on the car. The specialist said the battey was the wrong voltage and ordered a new one from Land Rover, put that on but still no change. This all took 6 hours!!

The outcome, a new battery Thumbs Up and another trip back to Doncaster to leave the car with the specialist for the day next week Big Cry
