clonk

Just to recap...took the car in to the dealers for the clunking tow bar. The removable ball arm was not a good fit into the housing attached to the car and you could actually move the tow ball about and hear the clunking by hand, I was told it was a known problem and LR have a fix. I now have a new tow ball/arm + new receiver bolted to the tow bar. They have apparently increased the surface area of the two connecting parts and improved the locking coupling - the connection is now absolutely solid. Took the caravan in for a service today and no noise/problems when towing (Apart from the rear sensors not turning off and screaming their heads off...but that's another story). If anyone wants any pictures or the reference number of the ball coupling just ask. Thumbs Up

Hi Bob, what do you need to know ? - all I can say is that the swan neck plus the receiver section was replaced as 'apparently' they have tightened the tolerances on the replacements - no noise at all now Thumbs Up
If you want me to look for part numbers I will, but it will be late Saturday before I can do it Smile

I had nine changed also, new swan neck and receiver. The swan neck looks the same as the old one but aledgedly they have beefed up the receiver. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I think the word you are struggling for is"tyke". Exclamation
A yorkie is either a diminutive of a diminutive dog or a chocolate bar. Very Happy

I bought a Freelander from new earlier this year and had a detachable towbar fitted by the supplying dealer. My first outing with the caravan in May ( Central Scotland to Chester and return) passed without incident but we have just returned from three weeks in France and had several instances of a really heavy clunking thud from the area of the towbar. No apparent reason as to what was causing it, I could literally drive for several hundred miles without problem then experience two or three times within a mile.
When fitted I find I can get a little movement by hand from the tow bar and wonder if this is magnified by the extra weight and leverage a caravan can make. The car is booked into the supplying dealership on Monday morning to be checked out. We'll see what they have to say on Monday.

Artel, there should be no movement at all between the swanneck and the receiver when the towball is correctly fixed. If you have movement then the swanneck and the receiver has to be changed for the modified version. The fix is known to LR and it is a free update. Ralph

I had mine (Brink) changed back in Janurary and was fine to begin with no play whatsoever but I noticed a couple of weeks ago I have started to get a bit of play in the receiver again. That's towing the
1500kg "trailer" Whistle about once a month so not good. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
