Is it my imagination but if i set it to "cactus" setting on the terrain response knob the car seems to absolutely fly from a standing start. It doesnt get into the higher gears but it really took me aback the other day when i tried it.

Also can i turn it back to normal once the car is travelling at speed, I presume it wont harm anything in the transmission

aaah, you've found the 'sport' mode

The throttle response is quicker on Sand setting, and you can change the TR while on the move. Advantage of manual gearbox is you can use all gears in sport mode. Phil

For a really quick start, hold the brake down with you left foot, put it in sand mode.

Press the accelerator to about 2,500 revs, so the turbo has started spinning.

Then release the brake really quickly.

A sort of launch control.

Even the LR Experience centre people show you this trick.

It also removes the lag normally associated with starting an auto from standstill.

Indeed you can, the car turns into something of a beast on the 'sand' setting. Probably not a drive your passengers would appreciate, great for a spin on your own on back roads and roundabouts ....  Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!
