When you are sitting at the traffic lights and the oik in his Citroen saxo pulls up along side and revs away at the light determined to cut you up in your big heavy 4x4..... turn the Terrain response on to 'Sand mode' , if you have an automatic flick it into Drive and when the lights change just floor it - it'll take off like a scalded cat leaving Mr Saxo in your wake It's not big and it's not clevar and of course we are all mature enough to never need this tip but what the heck it's fun

i'll give that a go - purely for research purposes you understand.

The merc has a similarly useful toy called SBC Hold. Basically it locks the footbrake on until the throttle is pressed. Supposed to be to hold it at lights and on hills but it makes a great launch control!

My dealer told me about this on a test drive

When i had the i6 last week, i had a play with the sand setting, and that seemed to hold the car in the same gear until it was screaming for mercy. (in normal and sports mode)

Also when it the i6 i noticed that driving along if i changed the TR to sand since the car alters the setting for the gas pedel the car accerated without any input from me by moving the pedal

On my LRE day the instructor suggested another tip for a fast getaway in a TD4 Auto ........... Gear shift in sports mode, left foot on brake, right foot on accelerator until 2000 rpm (NOT more). As traffic lights change, release foot brake and as the FL2 leaps away, accelerate some more to maintain the dust cloud now enveloping the other car!

Sounds very juvenile I know ........ but tis fun once in a while!!

My first car was a 2 litre Capri *goes all misty eyed* auto.

I discovered if I put it in neutral, revved the out of the engine then dropped it into drive it would take off at the lights like a bat out of hell, tyres screaming etc.

The worryingly loud bang when I did this should have been a warning, as a few months later the auto box packed up completely.

my dads Ford Granada Scorpio had a similar problem with a exploding auto gear box, the garage had never seen anything like it before through normal driving

Covered under the warranty too

Does anybody know in there is a difference in the 0-100kph/0-60 mph time if for example you use an a td4 auto in the sport mode ?
I mean it sure feels different , but is there any offical data on the way they have got the time they post on their site? I hope it's not like fuel economy ..something you know you can get better.

Manuals go pretty well in "normal" mode as the Haldex diff puts 50% to the rear every time to go to a standstill - it backs off once you have got going so I'll try the sand mode and see what difference it makes.

Regards to Snappa and his fond memories of the Capri - I did the engine development for the Tickford Capri 2.8 with Turbo!

Nice.

I always wanted the 3.0s in black with the little netting mesh bit in the headrests.

Got a 2.0GT in the end. Great car and one of the most comfortable driving positions for me (very tall) I have ever found.

Handled like a pig though with either front end understeer/skip or rear end slide on corners/wet roundabouts etc.
