Eco Stop Start

The Caravan Fan up the lane has just traded in his F/L 1 (a well gorgeous Sport 3dr with Alcantara seats, good job I did not know) for a new XS? manual and enquired how to permantely turn off the stop/start feature. He being an old fart like myself who believes once started in the morning a diesel does not get turned off to close of play.
How the **** should I know but he thinks that I know all after showing him how to disable seat belt warning and 1 press unlocking.
Anybody out there prepared to preserve my reputation as 'The Know It All' still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

from what i have been told the only way to turn off the stop/start is by pressing the ECO button after each start

i presume the dealer might be able to though, but doubt they will Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Take a different view, tell the 'old fart' to give it a try, he might be surprised.

My first experience of 'eco stop start' was a mini Cooper Diesel loan car when my FL2 was last serviced. I ended up with the Mini for a couple of days and found the system work extremely well.

OK that was BMW's implementation of the technology, but if by chance LR have done an equally good job ( Whistle Whistle ) Then it might well be worth giving it a try.

The stop start should only kick in once the is warm and on the Mini it worked a treat and must have been at least part of the reason for that car's quite exceptional fuel economy.

I say at least give it a try .... Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

I have the stop/start system. Yes, to turn off, press the ECO button. But you would have to do that for each journey if you never want it on.

It does seem strange at first, but it works very well. I also suggest 'give it a try'. I only turn it off in stop start traffic when the stops are very short. I've read on here that at least a 3 second stop is enough for it to save fuel.

As manmade global warming is a myth, the genuine environmental benefit of stop/start is to reduce air pollution in urban areas. This is actually a genuine environmental and health problem that it is worth trying to reduce.

I have the stop/start on my FL2 which I've had for about 3 weeks.

I must admit I tend to switch it off after each start as again being " an old fart " I don't like the idea of the engine turning itself on and off without me telling it to !!

but I am going to give it a go once I am used to everything else in the car as from what I have seen it seems to start straight away, etc ( I'm just starting to get used to the dipping mirrors when reversing )

what was concerning me if I do use the stop/start full time is the possible premature wear of all parts involved in the stop/start process ?? I know these have probably been upgraded and fully tested, but then again I am an old fart !!

Got the start/stop system myself and got used to it. Doesn't shut the engine off all the mime, especially with these hot temps and my wife thinking airco is the same as your car being a fridge. It usually stops then restart in 10 to 15 seconds an never stops again.

I also tend to turn it off only in heavy traffic with lots of stops, but most of the time i don't notice it anymore.

Done 13k kms now in 3.5 months and still loving the car immensely!

Thanks Guys for the no help, its transpired that its not the engine stopping thats iffed him off (he does not travel into the bright lights of Droitwich very often) but a warning light in the cluster that tells him to change up before his misses suggests he slow down. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

I've always been told not to switch a turbo engine off right away, especially when hot, but leave it to tick over for about 30 seconds or so to allow fresh oil to cool the turbo before switch off.

using the eco stop/start will not do this and surely the turbo will suffer ??

the engine shuts down more or less straight away, but they may have something that provides some lubrication to the turbo for a few seconds after shutdown ?

Re "The Old Fart"

Stop /Start Off Permanently Without Hitting The Eco Button - Simple:

Tell him to go live in a climate of <4°C, or +38°C as it doesn't automatically kick in beyond those temperatures Very Happy
