H7 Halogen blowing and smoke emitting Edit - Sorted now

My 07 FL2 has the standard H7 lamps. The nearside has blown and I've replaced it twice only for them to blow almost as soon as they are fitted. After noticing a slight smell, I've popped another (still working) bulb in and can see wispy smoke coming from the black connector that fits onto the back of the lamp when the headlights are on.
Obviously I'm not going to use the car until it's fixed but has anyone had this particular issue before and is it a case of just replacing the black push fit connector? There's no obvious signs of serious heat damage although there hasn't been much opportunity for the problem to worsen.
I'm assuming the first move is to get a replacement, cut and join it on, stick a new bulb in and see what happens, unless anyone who's had this issue has an opinion? Thanks.

Edit: It turns out the replacement bulbs handed to me were old, previously used and just stored in a drawer. The assumption is the smoke and short life was from moisture on them. I've put in a new one and all seems well for the moment. I'll leave this up until I can figure out how to delete it as a self-deprecating reminder that sometimes the answer is simply to apply a bit of thought and common sense. Embarassed
