Slow pull away

more often than not when trying to pull away at junctions i'm getting next to no 'go' then all of a sudden we are off, wondered if it's gearbox related so had the 12 + year old oil changed which seems to have improved other issues but this one persists.

the engine doesn't rev when my foot is on the floor but as i say the power comes in all of a sudden and then were at red line, so got me thinking is it engine control related, so do you think i should be looking at the MAF or throttle body instead? as i know there are issues in the throttle body with worn plastic gears

Thoughts

its an SD4 if that makes a difference & the garage is steering me towards a new auto box Range Rover L322 (the current posh one)

How about looking at the sensor(s) on the accelerator pedal. If the output from them is incorrect it doesn’t matter what other parts you are swapping out.

I have the same problem and living on a blind bend it is risky. There are no fault codes so any advice for both of us would be appreciated. 😀

Are you talking about a pause of a second or two while the FL2 makes up its mind what gear you want and the engine/turbo ramps up power?

or

Does the actual amount of power available seem low and slow to increase to normal?

The hesitation is quite normal in the autobox, but the changes do seem to get slower and more ragged as the ATF gets older.

Poor power is normally down to turbo/inlet problems. Check Turbo pipes and that the actuator is free.

Most failing components are monitored and fault codes are logged.

The throttle body plays no part in controling the running engine's power on a diesel. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

The lag seems to be slower than normal and when you boot it the acceleration is not there compared to what it should be, on one occassion foot to the floor and nothing and then power but not full power.
I know it seems not to make sense but that is what it is like.

Could be a split turbo hose or sticking turbo vanes/actuator .

Surprised there are no fault codes showing. Jules

just had gear box flushed so not old oil, in command shift it's fine just happens in full auto. will look at turbo hoses / actuator just in case - just have to rough it in the range rover for now Very Happy
for info pulling out at a junction you plant your foot and the engine just says "No" no revs and very very slow movement (if it were a manual it would be akin to trying to pull away in 3rd/4th) Range Rover L322 (the current posh one)

Just wrote this in answer to a similar thread which may be relevant;

I have an sd4 auto without electronic brake and suffer similar symptoms you describe. I find the sd4 too responsive in stop/start and slow moving traffic and will sometimes leap or clunk if setting off too sprightly, and when moving slowly the auto will unnecessarily drop down a gear with a mild delay. To overcome this in town I select manual mode 2nd gear. The car will easily pull away on the level and gives a much smoother ride while crawling. Once moving moderately I change up through the gears manually and when slowing the gears will still reduce automatically but never drop into 1st. Once on the open highway I go back to full auto. I’ve comfortably lived with this method from 40k to its current 130k mileage so it’s not a new problem. There was never a problem with my previous Td4 or two FL1s.

That's pretty much what i'm doing as well, but i'm hoping there is a longer term solution as i can't believe that whoever on behalf of JLR designed a automatic gearbox or engine with this issue didn't pick this up, especially as it seems common in some form or other.

further investigation when time permits. Range Rover L322 (the current posh one)

I would love to try that but my command shift does not work, not sure why but on full auto all works 😭
