No idea how would I check that? Assume turbo would have to come out.

Its actually a section in the JLR workshop manual. You disconnect the vane actuator arm from the electric motor unit and then move the vanes through their full range of movements. Jules

If you have stuck Turbo Vanes, then it can burst the rubber Turbo to Intercooler pipes. Trust me, been there. It is not uncommon for people to disconnect the actuator link, just before selling the car, to hide faults. The Vanes jam with Carbon and stop rotating, then burn out the Actuator motor.

Tried to search for manual but to no avail. I thought the manual was on here.

Right so before anything else decided to do oil/filter change. For such a stupid design this time I did it quite quickly.
I did try to remove a couple of front plates to see if filter access was any better. THe light grey plastic one comes off easily. Be damned if I could get the larger black plastic one off, for another day. What I did see was that the pipework just past the short piece from the egr has a fair bit of oil on it, as evidenced by the two photos attached.
The pipe work has no slpits or anything else untoward as far as I can see.
Now finally one more question.
Armed with my can of Wynns Turbo cleaner where do I introduce this?

It tells one how to use it ie short burst but not where to introduce it. Point one seemed a fair place as any as is basically straight into the turbo.
