Rear brake disc change

Hi, Does anyone know what make/where at, a brake calliper rewind tool to suit the rear calliper on our 2013 Freelander 2 Auto. I bought a new Shock absorber and fitted it but thought while I was at it that I may as well fit new disc and pads never thinking about the rewind tool that will be required because my son has a full box set.......none fit!!! I nearly bought a set on EBAY but prob they wouldn't have one to fit. I can't put the wheel back on and drive to a garage because I can't put it back together. So....are there any members on this site that know where to go for one. Rimmer bros don't have one in their catalogue.

You need to state what type of parking brake you have.
EPB or older cable and drum/shoes ?

The EPB needs to be set into "service mode" to wind the motors back . The pistons simply
push back - a specific tool is not required. Jules

I hope you bought 2 shock absorbers as they should always be fitted in pairs. Jules

Putting electric hand brake into service mode before changing pads.
Procedure is:
Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on.
1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.
2. Wait 2 seconds
3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
4. Wait 2 seconds
5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle.
6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash. You will hear the brake motors activate for a while.

Deactivation with ignition on.
1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.
2. Wait 2 seconds
3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.
4. Wait 2 seconds
5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle. Jules

It took me 2 days to locate a laser 3 pin part to be able to wind the callipers back. They don't push back and although my son had a 21 piece set, none of them fit the callipers on our SD4. Also , one of the little pins on the Laser bent backwards just to make the job more difficult but at least it is now done!! Very Happy Very Happy Laughing After having lots of defenders old and new up and down the fields I can't remember ever having to do anything with the handbrake that apparently worked on the transmission .

The old series LRs, Defenders and early Discoveries all had a drum handbrake which operated on the propshaft. I found this to be a very effective set up but did need to occasionally adjust it to take up free play on the handbrake lever. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
