Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

Have bought from SGS for previous car. But this time bought some cheap ones in Australia for the boot.

Seem to be a few mm too long so had to ratchet them in a bit. Other than that so far no issues. Were installed in May 2023. Was getting sick & tired of using a short adjustable painters pole.

Was going to get a pair for the bonnet, but so far the bonnet stays up, even with the extra acoustic insulation. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Bilsteins!

I bought some FeBi Bilstein struts for my tailgate a year ago, and they're still as strong as ever even after a year of Australian sun. They weren't expensive then but shipping from Amazon Germany was, and I justified it as an experiment in importing - and being able to tell my mates I fitted Bilsteins to the Land Rover.

I'm expecting 10 years use from them.

Thanks for the replies. I've gone with the set from JGS4x4 for now - at that price they don't have to last forever!

I've had aftermarket struts on hood and tailgate (bonnet and boot) for years now, they work fine. Don't recall the brand.

Must be the time of year , bought mine from JGS4x4 , time will tell but sensible price so we shall see.
Should have bought the tailgate set at the same , they're getting a little sluggish. A little electrician screwdriver is the tool of choice to free the existing ones.

For the engine compartment hatch I used the Stabilus which are the ones originally fitted on the Freelander 2.

All it takes is a slight upward pressure and the tailgate opens automatically.

Ancient thread, I know, but I've just replaced my bonnet struts this morning.
What a difference!

I was changing the oil the other day and as I walked away from the car, the bonnet just crashed down on it's own Shocked Had any of my extremities been in the gap, it would have been painful. However if I'd left tools or some metal part sticking up, it could've dinged the bonnet - even more painful.

I bought mine from John Craddock and didn't know how bad the old ones were until I fitted the new ones. The bonnet now lifts itself and stays there. Obviously 15 years spending 99% of the time compressed, wasn't helping them. The tailgate ones are pretty good, so maybe someone did those a while ago.

Swapping two struts on a car in 5 minutes, is a personal best!

Part number was LR001773, a tenner each. Life is an uphill struggle. Only the gradient varies.

In May 2023 I replaced the boot struts with cheap ones & they are still working.

Just the other day replaced the bonnet struts with cheap ones from the same place in Australia. So will have to see how they go. I did notice they are smaller diameter than the Land Rover originals. The length was correct.

The bonnet is now staying up again, with the extra weight of insulation.

Easy to replace, just push a small flat screwdriver under the spring to pull it out a bit. Then the end of the strut will pop off much easier. & obviously prop up the bonnet.

Australia only $49 a pair including delivery but took a week to turn up. https://www.sparkautos.com.au/land-rover-f...struts-lr0 Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
