Re: Auto gearbox question

Hello everyone!
I have just put a deposit down on a 2011 FL2 auto and hope I haven’t made a mistake!
I had been looking for an S Max and had been warned off any “powershift” auto, because of plastic internals that are prone to failure. I’ve just seen the FL2 now also referred to as a “powershift”.
Should I be worried?
Any help gratefully received 👍

Are you confusing "Powershift" with the term "Command shift"?

The issue was that I was thoroughly put off the autobox in the 2.0 diesel S-Max that I was also considering at the time, because of the known fragility of the automatic ‘box.
As they would have shared parts (such as the platform) and the gearbox selection is so similar, I feared the ‘box may have been the same unit.

On the plus side, I’ve already done 3,500 miles in it since the 8th of last month, despite it getting laid up for a week and a half, having its exhaust manifold and 3 sheared exhaust manifold bolts replaced.

Oh dear.
Currently waiting for the RAC, with “reduced performance”…

Any idea of the reason?
A cheap code reader in the glovebox is a useful bit of kit.
Split intercooler hose is a likely candidate. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I had hoped it was going to be that.
Sadly, there’s a big leak on the intercooler and if it’s not what’s causing it, it’ll be the “electronic actuator for the turbo” 😢

The intercooler was fine, apparently.
They put it down to a problem with a sticky turbo actuator telling me that, because the turbo had been working under reduced pressure (as a result of a very leaky exhaust manifold), the actuator hadn’t been operating fully and hadn’t “been operating through its full range”.
They took it off, cleaned / lubricated it and told me to run it for a couple of weeks. They said that it it will either carry on working, or I’d need to replace the turbo.
So far I’ve run it for 6 days and 600 miles and all is well, with no further oil leaks from the intercooler and it’s running well.
Next job rear drop links, one of which is completely shot.
