A new reservoir is inexpensive, easy to install and has its own clean internal filter. Jules |

Seems like a good place to start. Will order a new reservoir.

I used to work on lifeing Aircraft parts, so, rubber gets harder as it ages, it also tends to granulate and pass air into the fluid inside, but not leak the fluid until the granules get big enough. Steel pipes rust inside the connecting areas and rust gets into the fluid as well. Freelander racks rust out the small diameter tube along the top of the rack cylinder. The internal plastic bushes likewise harden and crack internally. Not all repairers replace all parts needing replacement. Metal fatigue is another secret world, until failure occurs. Many vehicle parts are compounds that cure over long periods of time. This is not a part of vehicle manufacturers type approval, or long term thinking. Most rubber componants have SHELF life of seven years, then used or thrown away, or sold on Ebay. |
