Freelander 2 Power Steering High Pressure Hose

Freelander 2, had new power steering high pressure hose fitted, after bleeding the system everything looked good no leaks. After 30minutes I started reversing the car out of the drive when I heard this bang went to check and the hose was off and fluid all running out.

This was the second time trying with a new hose, the first time exactly the same.
Both hoses were OEM Parts but from two different suppliers.
Mechanic is checking out to see if he can solve this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, if so I would be happy to hear from you.

Thanks

I've only seen aftermarket hoses fail to lock on, not OE hoses. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Is that the mostly rubber pipe from the pump to the thinner metal pipework ( I call that the wibbly wobbly pipe)

If so did you replace the thinner metal pipework at the same time

Hi, Everything was replaced as in the image, mechanic never replaced the low pressure hose going back to reservoir as it was okay, no leaks and in good condition.
Only reason OE Parts were fitted is I can't get original Landrover Parts, so I am now on the waiting list and have been since the start of November with my local LR Garage.

Do you think that could be the reason for the pipe to pop off?

At the moment waiting on mechanic getting back to me.

Hope this link opens up for you to see. ( Never done this before)

Thanks for your replies.

I know the connector at the metal to rubber pipe is a sod to undo if you don't know your way around it. but since you had both pipes renewed it should not have come off.

Hi, I bought this at the end of November and only got it fitted on 20th December, the was the first available slot for the mechanic to come to the house.

I have not got in touch with the seller. ( what could I ask them, all parts are there and fitted to the car?)

All parts fitted I would not expect the hose to come off.

I also read that the reservoir has a filter fitted on the low pressure side, do you think that could be a problem why the hose keeps coming off? Thinking out loud.

Thanks for your replies

Have you tried to re seat the connector and given it a bloody good tug. It is good practice to renew the bottle when doing any power steering system work

That’s worth a shot,I will try that myself, as it will be after Xmas and new year before the mechanic can come.

It’s a bad time of the year, I will post the outcome, if or when it happens.👍

Thanks for your reply

An OE hose isn't that expensive, I paid about £80 for mine, and was definitely worth it for the quality of the fit. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

When I used aftermarket parts for high-pressure it popped off. The aftermarket base hose got torn on my test drive. I learnt that lesson the hard way. for high-pressure power steering hose and the base, only use Genuine parts. Regards,
