Fathers 2010 FL2 did the usual split it’s upper rubber hose after 12years and 70,000 miles..

Easy fix or so I thought and on advice from people who know decided to fit the complete genuine hose kit rather than just the top hose.. what a barsteward.. didn’t help doing it on the driveway in the rain!

To get to the intercooler end of the hose you have to dissect most of the front of the car to be able to release the jubilee clip.. wheel off, inner wheel arch down, drive belt cover off, release front bumper clips, take out headlight, remove bumper tow eye cover, release lower bumper screws, release retaining clip for intercooler hose, and swear!

Then comes the twisting and turning to try and extract the old one.. word of warning to those doing this job for the first time be careful not to crush the new jubilee clips which are actually held in place on the hoses by claw feet. It is really easy to do in trying to wiggle the pipe into place!

Eventually done it but a nightmare job!

I am trying to remember is it a lot easier if the jubilee clip is put on so it's more accessible but a sod if it's not

I wouldn't describe it as a nightmare job though, it's about 45 minutes work, although the rain wouldn't make it a pleasant 45 minutes.
Now changing a clutch on the Freelander 2, that is a nightmare job.  2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I was trying to remove as little as possible instead of just committing to do the job properly.. one of the frustrating things was the constant change to different size sockets, torx bits and crushing the new jubilee did nothing to make it easier!

Everything to do with working on these motors (except changing the headlight bulbs) is an epic fight

Is it easy to do if car is on lift, just had genuine hose assembly fitted by my local garage, and pretty sure they didn’t remove half the car .

I have been doing the same job myself.

The lower intercooler hose has split in my case, so it has been a front bumper off job.

So far has taken me two saturday afternoons, and may take me another two afternoons to complete the job.

One afternoon to remove the front bumper. Three hours.

One afternoon to remove the old hose, and locate the new one where it should be.

I am still yet to connect the new hose to bottom or top connection points, as I had enough after 3 hours.

The hardest job was removing the old old hose.

I thought with the bumper off it would be an easy job, but that is not the case, as there is very little room to work with.

Just as well that I have another car I can use.

The last time I worked on a car was circa 1980 changing the slipper on the timing chain of my MGB GT in the rain. I swore that I would never again dirty my hands and suffer bruised and cut knuckles and to this day have relied on professionals to do the dirty work.  MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

When also time is taken in to account, which is always longer then is thought it would be because of not knowing what to do. It’s often better to do some overtime and pay someone else who knows better then what I do.

Have to agree with this paying someone else to do the work. Did it when I was young and brassic, now I’m wiser and a bit better heeled , 🤬 the spanner’s plus I lift the bonnet and struggle to recognise anything on modern motors.

Unfortunately the garage is so busy with your cars that the earliest date they could do it was the 10th January! This is Dad’s only means of transport thus it became a necessity!
Halfway through I was starting to regret particularly in this weekends weather!

I agree with the earlier comments.. they are gits to work on first time round but once you know how they are put together we become quite proficient!
I have changed some many door locks now that it’s now a half hour job! An oil change with the correct 27mm combination swivel spanner is ten minutes rather than two hours!
