Moving on

Well guys - a red letter day. After 13 years of FL2 ownership, including 8 years with the present one, I am moving on. I moved to the FL2 for it’s capability as a tow car for our caravan. For which I cannot fault them.
In recent years my wife became poorly such that I sold the ‘van. Since then she has sadly passed away and I have no need for what still remains a delightful vehicle to drive. With the RFL now a stonking £360 😳 it is not justified for a single retired old git like me.
What am I replacing it with? Moving back to VAG with an Audi A3 1.4TFSI Sport. “Should” be a bit more economical and a lot less RFL. But an attractive little motor with a bit of an edge to the regular hatchback I think.
Now getting all my LR paperwork together. May (will) have a few bits & bobs for sale soon - not leaving yet!

TBH Mark, the Freel2 Forum is the easiest to navigate and populated by some very helpful guys. I have now returned to the VW Audi forum - a nightmare to navigate and so many posts with queries not answered at all!

Good luck.
I moved to an Audi Q5 about a month ago after 5 Land Rover’s , really enjoy and have gained by this forum but have failed to find a ‘decent’ Audi forum that is to similar standard - do share link if you have found one.

Problem with some forums for hi end cars is that their 'owners' have them on pcp and have no need (or ability) to open the bonnet except maybe to add screen wash. There is no technical information to help hands on owners and queries about such things are met with 'take it to a dealer' replies.

Sorry to hear your sad loss. I am in a similar position now retired what was my daily driver to work is now redundant and sitting in the garage not being used as I generally walk to the shops and most other places, so reluctantly will have to think about moving on also though the RFL is not so bad on a TD4 but cannot think what to replace my FL2 with??? 2013 FL2 XS.

Am in a similar situation , not through lack of use but the very real prospect of ULEZ being expanded in August next year; certainly not going to pay Khan £12.50 every day I move it Censored
What to buy though? My Indy garage says they see very few Disco Sports come in other than for routine servicing so that’s a possibility along with the Skoda Kodiaq. Time and budget will tell

Our fl2 is £360 a year, but we only tax it for 8 months to make the numbers add up. We don’t caravan in the winter

Bob, my condolences on your loss.

Enjoy the A3 - my eldest swears by them and certainly clocks up the miles as a driving instructor.

Got to admit that the £520 road fund license cost for the DS is hard to swallow, but compared to the £5k+ for fuel, the £600 for the annual service or £930 for the extended warranty it's not a major concern. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Hi all I changed to a VW Touran 7 seater 2.0tdi some 15 months ago, whilst I enjoyed the FL2 it was starting to get expensive at 7 years old. The VW is £165 road tax and over the last 12 months has averaged 58.7 mpg or £0.1455 pence per mile mostly mixed driving which when you do a lot of miles make a difference to the overall running costs. I do all my own servicing and repairs so I can't comment on service costs other than to the parts are less than FL2. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Good choice with the A3 . When I was working I had about every make of car you could imagine as company vehicles . Audi were the top of the tree for being well screwed together . Always had the best seats as well .

As far as being a ‘ retired old single ‘ , I’m going to give you my two Penn’’orth of unasked for personal experience . I lost my wife to cancer in March 2020 . I’d been retired ( early at 60 ) for 4 years . After a period of adjustment Ive embarked on life MK2 . The only thing that matters now is what you want . Don’t put off what you want to do today , try it , move on if it doesn’t suit . Try things you’ve never tried , go places you’ve never been . It’s not disloyal to a departed loved one to live a great life as hopefully you’ll be around for a good long time .

Thanks Mart

My wife passed away March last year. Again it was cancer. I am now 75. Not so keen any more to get under the FL2 to do my own Auto box ATF etc. The Most system has been showing signs of playing up. A few hiccups at times suggesting the crank sensor. Time to move on! I went looking for s/h hatchback. Against the Golfs etc, I saw the Audi saying "buy me". I couldn't resist. It should last me out. As you alluded, I only needed to ask myself - & I said yes! Very Happy Plan to run it to Scotland next month for a shakedown - 'cos I can!
